Payroll Specialist

The Role 

This role will be responsible for managing and processing payroll for a designated population of approximately 1,000 employees within our multi-state organization of 5,000 – and we’re still growing like weeds…pun intended! In addition to your core bi-weekly population, you’ll also own one small weekly payroll from start to finish.

You have the experience and tenacity to quickly learn Green Thumb’s organization and the nuances of the cannabis industry – and you can already spot a downstream problem before it becomes a fire. You’re someone who thrives on running clean, on-time payrolls and takes genuine pride in getting it right every single cycle.

Responsibilities 

 • Own and manage the end-to-end workflow for your assigned bi-weekly payroll population of approximately 1,000 employees, ensuring timely and accurate processing every cycle

• Own and execute one small weekly payroll independently

• Process and audit employee updates in Wurk (HRIS/payroll portal) related to compensation changes, job changes, transfers, garnishments/levies, and terminations

• Resolve payroll discrepancies, process adjustments, and issue manual checks as needed

• Provide excellent customer service in response to payroll inquiries

• Respond to all related mailings in a timely manner

• Support internal and external audits and fulfill reporting requests

• Willingness to take on additional projects and responsibilities as assigned

Qualifications  

• 3+ years of payroll experience required

• Experience processing payroll for non-exempt, hourly employees

• Proven track record of success in a fast-paced, high-growth organization

• Demonstrated understanding of multi-state wage and labor laws

• Advanced computer skills, including Excel

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

• Strong organizational and time-management skills – you can juggle multiple payroll cycles without dropping the ball

• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills; able to interact professionally at all levels of the organization

• Experience using the following products, a plus: Kronos, Wurk, Greenhouse

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Additional Requirements 

  • Must pass any and all required background checks  
  • Must be and remain compliant with all legal or company regulations for working in the industry  
  • Must possess valid driver’s license 
  • Must be a minimum of 21 years of age 
  • Must be approved by state badging agency to work in cannabis industry

The pay range is competitive and based on experience, qualifications, and/or location of the role. Positions may be eligible for a discretionary annual incentive program driven by organization and individual performance.

Green Thumb Pay Range

$65,000 - $75,000 USD
