Role Overview
Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Towson University Hillel as the Assistant Director. You will drive Hillel forward by thinking big, empowering the programming team and student leaders, and creating a warm and inclusive environment for Jewish life on campus. As a skilled, community-builder and relationship-driven professional, you will serve as the senior member of the student-facing team, shaping and advancing Towson Hillel’s strategy for engagement, programming, and leadership development.
On a daily basis, you will supervise the engagement team, hold responsibility for the student engagement pipeline, guide communications strategy, and collaborate closely with university partners to ensure a cohesive and vibrant Jewish campus experience. The ideal candidate is a strategic relationship-builder who combines educational vision with strong organizational instincts, is committed to pluralism, and is excited to build systems that expand access to meaningful Jewish life at Towson University and throughout the Baltimore community.
What You’ll Do
Strategic Engagement & Data-Driven Growth
- Build authentic, one-on-one relationships with Jewish students throughout Towson University, meeting them where they are both intellectually and physically on campus.
- Develop, adapt, and execute a comprehensive campus engagement plan, overseeing the student engagement pipeline from first-year outreach through sustained involvement.
- Utilize the HEaRT database and student feedback to track engagement metrics, analyze trends, evaluate program impact, and identify students in need of targeted outreach.
Student Leadership & Pluralistic Programming
- Partner with student leaders to develop and implement a dynamic, student-driven calendar of programming that reflects the diversity of the Towson Jewish community.
- Support students in navigating their Jewish identities with compassion, curiosity, and an open, pluralistic perspective.
- Onboard, train, and mentor student leaders and outreach Interns, leading the planning and execution of student board retreats and leadership cohorts.
Staff Supervision & Team Management
- Supervise and mentor the engagement team, supporting them in achieving individual goals, navigating professional growth, and understanding how their roles drive Towson Hillel's wider mission.
- Coach and mentor staff on cohort teaching and recruitment strategies.
Campus Integration & Strategic Communications
- Direct and supervise student-facing communications strategy (social media, email campaigns, on-campus marketing, and texting) to ensure a consistent messaging and strong brand voice.
- Serve as a primary thought partner to the Executive Director on institutional strategy and university partnerships.
- Represent Towson Hillel at university events and within the broader Baltimore Jewish community.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
- 4+ years of professional experience in Jewish, experiential, or higher education.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree is a plus.
- Proven success in:
- Planning and executing large-scale projects and strategic programs.
- Supervising, coaching, and inspiring a professional team.
- Impact measurement and data analysis.
- Stakeholder and relationship management.
- A deep commitment to pluralism and comfort acting as a Jewish role model and mentor for emerging adults.
- Excellent interpersonal and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, university partners, and community stakeholders.
- Strong organizational instincts, balancing accountability with flexibility, taking initiative, and demonstrating a healthy sense of humor and adaptability.
What You’ll Receive
- Salary: Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $65,000–$72,000, commensurate with experience.
