Director of Student Engagement

Grant Hillel at the University of Delaware

Role Overview

Grant Hillel at the University of Delaware is seeking a dynamic and creative Director of Student and Community Engagement to join our professional team. We are looking for someone with energy, superb organizational and communication skills, and a strong commitment to Jewish life. You will build relationships with students, while creating programs around campus that are impactful, and of high quality. You will be a strategic thought-partner with the Executive Director in order to achieve our mission infused with Jewish values.

We have an estimated 2,250 Jewish students at the University of Delaware and there is not a one size fits all approach for how we can reach them all. You will have the chance to learn from what works, build connections between students and have the opportunity to develop meaningful Jewish experiences.

What You’ll Do

  • Design and implement an engagement plan founded in the design-thinking process to strategically build relationships.
  • Mentor student leaders in their Jewish growth through individual meetings and group trainings to cultivate a Jewish community that is caring, diverse, welcoming, and actively inclusive.
  • Contribute to program development, manage logistics, and collaborate with staff and student leaders to ensure the execution of Shabbat, holiday celebrations, and small to large-scale events.
  • Supervise student interns, student leaders, and their committees who are responsible for engaging their peers in Jewish life on campus.
  • Supervise the engagement team of 3-5 professional staff.
  • Assist the development work and other fundraising efforts.
  • Advise student leaders and student groups in planning, publicity/marketing, implementing, budgeting, and assessing programs and events.
  • Maintain program attendance records for measurement and ongoing evaluation purposes.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

What You’ll Bring to the Job

  • Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of full-time professional work experience.
  • Participation in student life and organizations during your college career.
  • Confidence developing and running initiatives and comfort asking questions.
  • Desire to motivate student leaders to engage their peers, deepen their Jewish identities, and think innovatively about program content and marketing.
  • Exemplary time management skills, including the capacity to juggle competing priorities and deadlines, and to remain flexible within an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • A commitment to pluralism and comfort with your Jewish identity so you may act as a role model and mentor for emerging Jewish adults.
  • Owning your unique Jewish knowledge and experiences and inspiring others to be on a Jewish journey.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.

What You’ll Receive

Grant Hillel offers a competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace along with a comprehensive benefits package. The salary range for this role is $55,000-$61,000. The position includes Jewish professional growth opportunities, great supervision, and work on a college campus with a dynamic, collaborative team.
