Wastewater Treatment Operator – Temporary Position
A Wastewater Treatment Operator (Class III) is responsible for overseeing and managing the operation of the facility’s biological wastewater pretreatment system. This role will focus on ensuring optimal system performance, compliance with all applicable regulations, and proper documentation. The position will require twice-weekly onsite inspections, equipment maintenance and calibration, routine sampling, and the development of protocols for system upsets and emergencies.
**This is a temporary, part-time position averaging 10–15 hours per week, with twice-weekly on-site visits. The role is anticipated to last approximately six months**
Detailed Responsibilities
Employee and Environmental Safety:
- Conducts all work in accordance with sound safety practices and proper work methods or procedures, wearing all required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Complies with all environmental regulations regarding wastewater operations, chemical usage, and disposal
- Performs work in alignment with all quality systems requirements and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)
- Monitors compliance with regulatory guidelines and company environmental policies
System Oversight and Management:
- Oversees and manages the operation of the facility’s biological wastewater pretreatment system
- Conducts twice-weekly on-site visual inspections and process checks for compliance monitoring and operational adjustments
- Performs bi-weekly maintenance and equipment calibration to ensure system reliability and accuracy
- Conducts routine sampling as required for monitoring and compliance reporting
Corrective Action and Emergency Protocols:
- Establishes and implements corrective action procedures for system upsets to ensure prompt resolution and minimal disruption
- Develops and maintains emergency response protocols for unforeseen operational issues to safeguard system integrity
Compliance and Reporting:
- Reviews monthly compliance reports to assess system performance and ensure accurate reporting to regulatory authorities
- Maintains complete and organized records of inspections, maintenance, calibrations, and sampling activities
Time Management:
- Prioritizes operational tasks to maintain compliance and efficiency
- Responds promptly to system performance issues or emergencies
- Coordinates activities effectively to minimize operational downtime
General Responsibilities:
- Follows facility GMPs and supports company policies and programs
- Collaborates with facility staff to ensure smooth coordination of wastewater operations with production and other departments
Qualifications

- Required: Class I, II or III Wastewater Treatment Operator certification
- Experience in wastewater treatment operations, preferably in an industrial or food manufacturing setting
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of biological wastewater pretreatment systems and related equipment
- Ability to perform maintenance and calibration on wastewater monitoring equipment
- Familiarity with compliance reporting requirements and environmental regulations
- Solid communication skills and ability to train or instruct others on system procedures
- Competence in using standard computer applications for reporting and documentation
