As our Senior Director of Operations Strategy and Optimization you’ll architect the next generation of Hungryroot’s fulfillment network. You will own the systems, tools, and strategies that ensure healthy food reaches customers efficiently, sustainably, and at scale.

This is a high-impact role at the intersection of technology, operations, and strategy - ideal for a leader who thrives in scaling complexity, building high-performing teams, and driving transformation. You’ll partner closely with Engineering, Product, Fulfillment Ops, and Supply Chain while leading your own cross-functional team across systems engineering, packaging, inventory, and continuous improvement.

About the role

The Senior Director of Operations Strategy and Optimization will lead the cross-functional strategy and execution of fulfillment systems and inventory, packaging operations, and continuous improvement. This role ensures that our operations, systems, tools, processes, and people are aligned to drive efficiency, compliance, and scale across our hybrid fulfillment network.

You’ll lead a growing team across systems engineering, packaging execution, inventory management, and continuous improvement  — and partner deeply with Engineering, Product, Fulfillment Ops, and Supply Chain.

As Hungryroot continues to scale its company-owned fulfillment center network and manage 3PL partnerships, we are investing in world-class systems and operational infrastructure to support accurate, efficient, and safe delivery of food to our customers.

Responsibilities

Fulfillment Systems Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end strategy and configuration of core fulfillment systems (WMS, OMS, labor management, scanning tools, and automation)
  • Translate operational needs into scalable workflows, logic rules, and system automations
  • Lead vendor selection, product roadmaps, and cross-functional alignment with Tech & Product.

Network Implementation and Scale

  • Standardize systems and SOPs across company-owned FCs and 3PLs.
  • Lead onboarding of new fulfillment centers into our systems ecosystem
  • Develop tooling and standards for slotting, labeling, pick-pack, packaging, and staging
  • Ensure stability, uptime, and SLA performance across all tools and processes

Inventory and Packaging Excellence

  • Build a comprehensive inventory strategy aligned with financial and operational goals
  • Partner across purchasing, warehousing, finance, and sales for flawless execution
  • Drive packaging innovation for efficiency, safety, sustainability, and customer delight
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and best practices to optimize  inventory and packaging efficiency

Continuous Improvement and Performance Management

  • Champion Lean, continuous improvement, and data-driven problem solving to optimize efficiency
  • Establish KPIs for uptime, productivity, inventory health, throughput, and safety
  • Build visibility and accountability around operational data and outcomes

Leadership and Team Development

  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team across fulfillment systems, packaging, and continuous improvement
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration with Tech, Product, and Ops stakeholders
  • Create a culture of innovation, accountability, and operational excellence

Qualifications

  • 8–12+ years of progressive experience in fulfillment, supply chain systems, or operations strategy
  • Proven leadership across multi-site fulfillment networks (company-owned + 3PL).
  • Expertise in WMS/OMS, automation integrations, inventory management, and packaging
  • Track record of implementing large-scale systems and process transformations
  • Strong communicator and cross-functional leader with the ability to influence tech and ops teams
  • Methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma to streamline processes and drive performance
  • Experience with NetSuite, JIRA and Confluence
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, operations management, or a related field
  • Systems thinker with bias for execution  and scale

Expected Pay Range
$200,000-$225,000
Bonus Eligible
