Environmental Specialist

The primary purpose of this position is to provide regulatory compliance support to company functions regarding applicable local, state, and federal environmental regulations.  Applicable areas of regulatory compliance include the Clean Water Act (CWA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), and the Clean Air Act (CAA). 

 

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Integration of regulatory compliance management into Hydrite’s business and operating systems through applicable standard operating procedure (SOP) development and management.
  • Coordinate and prioritize regulatory compliance activities within the SQRA Department members.
  • Ensure completion of all environmental reports and provide technical support to the SQRA team, as needed.
  • Coordinate and manage all existing regulatory permits and apply for any future permits.
  • Oversee compliance with Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure Plans (SPCC) at all affected facilities.
  • Provide support to maintain compliance with Risk Management Programs (RMP)/California Accidental Release Prevention (CalARP) at affected facilities.
  • Assist in the Management of Change (MOC) process as applicable to environmental compliance in coordination with Engineering, SQRA, and facility management.
  • Uphold Hydrite’s Standard of Excellence through a continuous commitment to maintain quality facilities and provide quality products and services to internal and external customers.
  • Current RCRA and DOT HAZMAT certification is required. Participation in and completion of assigned training activities as required.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Perform all duties outlined in relevant SOPs and all other duties to be assigned.
  • Provides back-up environmental support as necessary.
  • Supports effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.
  • Monitor and coordinate spill reporting activities at Hydrite facilities including maintenance of Hydrite’s third party 24-hour emergency response services.
  • Provide backup technical assistance in the event of a chemical release or exposure at one of our branches or at a customer location.
  • Assist with compliance auditing of branches and off-site waste management vendors.
  • Assist in maintenance of RCRA and state waste management permits.
  • Supports waste minimization and cost-saving initiatives
  • Supports effective communication with all Hydrite departments where responsibilities overlap to ensure success of the branch team.

REPORTING STRUCTURE

  • This position reports to the Director of Safety and Environmental Compliance and is to maintain internal contact with the SQRA staff, and with departmental and facility management, as needed. 
  • External contacts will be maintained with regulatory agencies as required by job duties.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 5 years in an industrial or regulatory agency setting in the performance of environmental compliance duties.
  • Bachelor’s degree is required. Preferably in engineering or natural science.  Post graduate continuing education courses sufficient to develop comprehensive knowledge of environmental laws and regulatory compliance strategies, preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of the chemical industry preferred.
  • Up to 20% travel to branches as needed.
