SAP Development Manager

Position Overview

The SAP Development Manager will lead and manage the SAP development team, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, robust solutions that
support business objectives and drive operational excellence. This role is responsible for all aspects of SAP technical development—including
ABAP programming, integration (CPI, BTP), and adherence to Quality Assurance and Center of Excellence (CoE) standards. The SAP
Development Manager will collaborate closely with business and IT stakeholders, manage code and configuration reviews, and drive best
practices for testing and solution delivery.

Key Responsibilities
Governance & CoE Standards

  • Maintain and evolve SAP CoE code/config reviews, development, integration, and testing guidelines.
  • Ensure documentation completeness for all technical objects and testing artifacts.
  • Provide governance oversight for vendor or AMS-delivered developments.
  • Define, implement, and enforce Center of Excellence (CoE) standards and best practices for SAP development.
  • Conduct and manage regular code and configuration reviews to ensure high quality and compliance with standards.
  • Ensure all deliverables undergo thorough quality checks and meet documentation requirements.

Innovation, AI, and Automation

  • Drive innovation by exploring and implementing AI solutions that enhance both business and technical SAP processes.
  • Collaborate with business process owners to identify use cases where AI can improve decision-making, forecasting, and operational

efficiency.

  • Partner with technical teams to evaluate and deploy AI/ML capabilities in SAP (e.g., embedded analytics, predictive scenarios,

intelligent RPA).

  • Proactively identify automation opportunities in SAP development, integration, testing, and transport management processes to reduce

manual effort and improve accuracy.

  • Establish a framework for prioritizing, piloting, and scaling AI and automation initiatives in alignment with CoE governance and business

goals.

  • Monitor emerging SAP and AI technologies, share insights with stakeholders, and recommend adoption strategies where value can be

realized.
 

Team Leadership & Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of SAP technical professionals (developers, integration specialists, QA).
  • Manage team performance, set clear goals, and ensure alignment with business and IT strategies.
  • Coordinate with the SAP Support Manager and other IT leaders to ensure seamless support and project delivery.
  • Stay on the top of SAP Innovation and maintain Technical Roadmap

SAP Development Management

  • Oversee all SAP development activities, including ABAP programming, custom enhancements, and system modifications.
  • Ensure timely delivery of solutions that meet business requirements and technical standards.
  • Manage technical designs, estimations, and delivery timelines for development work.
  • Enable coding/config standards and follow the ‘Keep the Core’ approach

SAP Transports Management

  • Manage all SAP transport creation, sequencing, and migration across environments.
  • Ensure proper dependency management and sequencing to avoid conflicts.
  • Validate and confirm that transports function correctly in production post-migration.
  • Maintain a full audit trail of transport approvals and changes in compliance with CoE governance.

SAP Integration (CPI, BTP, and Others)

  • Lead SAP integration efforts using SAP Cloud Platform Integration (CPI), Business Technology Platform (BTP), and related middleware

tools.

  • Oversee integration architecture, design, implementation, and support for end-to-end business processes.
  • Collaborate with external partners and internal teams for seamless integrations.

Testing Strategy & Practices

  • Develop and oversee comprehensive testing strategies, including unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing (UAT).
  • Ensure test plans and scripts are created, maintained, and executed for all SAP developments and changes.
  • Collaborate with QA teams to continuously improve testing methodologies and practices.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for SAP development matters for business, IT, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with project managers, architects, and functional teams to deliver business solutions.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and timely manner.

Process Improvement and Optimization

  • Consistently seek opportunities to improve and simplify support processes. Drive automation where feasible to increase efficiency,

scalability, and quality of service. Proactively look for ways to optimize operational costs without compromising service standards.

  • Champion support-related process improvements and automation opportunities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in SAP development and integration, including hands-on ABAP, CPI, and BTP.
  • 5+ years of team leadership or management experience.
  • Strong understanding of SAP CoE standards, SDLC, and quality assurance practices.
  • Experience with SAP testing strategies and tools.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • SAP Certification(s) in development or integration.
  • Experience in Agile/Scrum project environments.
  • Knowledge of S/4HANA, Fiori, or other advanced SAP technologies.

The anticipated pay scale for this position can be found below, however the pay range applicable to you may vary by geographic location based on where the job is located or where you work.  The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, education, etc.  iHerb, LLC is a multi-state employer and this pay scale may not reflect positions that work in other states or locations.
