Team Overview:
We are looking for a Vice President to lead our Applications Engineering and Solutions Engineering teams. The role centers on engaging leaders and support engineers at partners and enterprise end-users to enable solutions using RAIN RFID for item visibility and traceability. The successful candidate will apply their hands-on technical expertise and communication skills to lead a team in delivering a full scope of technical solutions, including technical documentation, training and demonstrations. This role requires excellent leadership and customer-facing skills.
What you will do:
- Create a technical vision for the long-term evolution of Applications Engineering organization to support partners and end users in partnership with Product Management, Sales and Engineering
- Shape the Applications Engineering organization, including Product Applications Engineers, Solutions Engineers, and Field Applications Engineers, to build core competencies, offer development perspectives and drive success
- Establish a uniform use of tools and methodologies across Impinj’s global teams to achieve consistent technical output and alignment with internal engineering
- Proactively ensure Impinj global teams are staying proficient with industry trends and internal tools to service our partners and end users
- Determine priority and act as an escalation path for field activity to ensure technical resources are working on the customers, partners and projects most important to the company
- Ensure Applications Engineering technical enablement and tools (including documents, application notes, reference designs, sample code, training, videos and demonstrations) align to the technical needs of the Solutions Engineering and Field Applications Engineering organizations
- Define methods for automating use cases that leverage RAIN RFID
- Capture customer requirements on topics such as new product development or industry technical trends and convey those requirements to product management
- Oversee product benchmarking and competitive analysis by Application Engineering and Product Management in accordance with SE and FAE competitive product data gathering and view of emerging competitive threats
- Create and enhance new capabilities to meet requirements for emerging use cases in collaboration with Engineering
- Ensure technical readiness (collateral, tools, samples) for new product introduction
What you will bring:
- 15+ years of experience leading successful engineering or applications engineering efforts
- Experience building effective team collaboration with both direct and indirect reports
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities, to effectively represent Impinj and our platform to technical audiences, both internal and external
- Experience defining new products, capturing detailed customer requirements and collaborating cross functionally to make technical and business tradeoffs
- Understanding of radios, wireless system design, processing systems, coding and tools development
- Knowledge of RF principles associated with link budgets, antenna propagation and spectrum
- Understanding of semiconductor design principles and tradeoffs in RF, Analog and SoC design
- Proficiency with modern object-oriented programming languages
- Demonstrated experience working with customers to understand requirements and translate those requirements into technical solutions
- Bachelor's degree in technical discipline such as engineering or computer science, or relevant field of study, or equivalent experience
- Willingness and ability to travel, up to 20% of the time, including internationally
Compensation & Benefits:

The typical base pay range for this role across the US is $203,600 - $305,400. Individual base pay depends on various factors such as complexity and responsibility of role, job duties, requirements, and relevant experience and skills. Both market wage data and the mid-point of the pay range is reviewed and used as the starting point for all new hire offers. Offers are made within the base pay range applicable at the time.
At Impinj certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including merit increases, annual bonus and stock. These awards are allocated based on individual performance. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee’s role.
