About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Hardware Engineering - Tech Lead to own and lead the design and execution of hardware devices and platforms. As a senior member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our hardware solutions. You will drive innovation, ensure the integration of cutting-edge technologies, and deliver devices that meet the highest standards of quality and performance, across the lifecycle of all of Inspiren’s devices and platforms.

What You'll Do

  • Lead Hardware Design Projects: Oversee the end-to-end design and development of new devices, from conceptualization to production.
  • Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Work closely with software engineers, mechanical engineers, product managers, our outsourced design and development partners, and other stakeholders to define hardware requirements and specifications per product requirements.
  • Innovate and Optimize: Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies. Introduce new technologies and methodologies to meet the necessary design specifications and performance. Provide technical expertise and support in hardware development, testing, and validation across the product lifecycle.
  • Embed Rigorous Design for Excellence (DfX) Mindset: Conduct design reviews  as well as both design and process failure mode effect analysis (FMEA), partnering with the outsourced design and development partners to drive rigorous DfX (design for cost, supply chain, reliability, quality, manufacturing, etc.) methodologies across all phases of the product development. 
  • Mentor Team Members: Provide technical guidance and mentorship, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
  • Ensure Quality, Reliability, and Compliance: Oversee the prototyping process, conduct testing, and validate hardware performance and reliability against requirements, including environmental and accelerated testing. Ensure all hardware meets regulatory standards and industry best practices. Set quality and reliability specifications.
  • Problem-Solve: Troubleshoot complex hardware issues and implement effective solutions in a timely manner. Act as the Tier-2 engineering support for products out in the field.
  • Strategic Planning: Contribute to the long-term hardware roadmap, aligning device development with the company’s product and platform roadmap.

About You

  • Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering field.
  • Experience: 8+ years of hands-on hardware engineering experience having launched multiple hardware projects with outsourced design and manufacturing partners, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Technical Expertise:
    • Proficient in circuit design, PCB layout, and hardware debugging.
    • Experience with IoT devices, embedded systems, and edge computing.
    • Knowledge of wireless communication protocols (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, LoRaWAN, LTE, NB-IoT).
    • Experience in designing low-power hardware solutions optimized for extended battery life.
    • Familiarity with hardware security principles and practices.
    • Well versed in the classic phase-gate hardware product development process
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex ideas clearly.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Start-up experience is a plus.

Additional Qualifications

    • Knowledge of regulatory compliance standards (e.g., FCC, CE, UL).
    • Willingness and ability to travel to Asia to collaborate with our partners. Travel will be roughly once a quarter for a week long trip.  

Details 

  • The annual salary range for this role is $200,000-$220,000+ equity + benefits (including medical, dental, and vision)
