IronMountain Solutions is seeking a Structural Engineer supporting an upcoming Long Range Standoff Weapon (LRSO) effort in Huntsville, AL. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in the evaluation, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of existing aviation platforms. This role is critical to ensuring reliable and efficient retrofitting or upgrading structural components in complex mechanical and electromechanical platforms.
Education and General Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, aerospace, or structural engineering or a related field is required and at least twelve (12) years of relevant experience with emphasis on evaluation, repair, modification, or production support of aviation structures.
- Familiarity with aircraft materials (aluminum alloys, composites, titanium, etc.) and structural joints (riveted, bonded, bolted).
- Proficient in interpreting 2D/3D CAD models, structural drawings, and aircraft maintenance manuals (AMMs, SRMs, CMMs).
- Working knowledge of FARs, FAA/EASA regulations, and OEM engineering processes.
- Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) tools and classical hand calculations for static strength assessments.
- Knowledge of composite repair techniques, corrosion prevention, and fatigue damage tolerance.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and make engineering decisions under tight deadlines.

Job Responsibilities:
- Evaluate structural discrepancies and non-conformances identified during aircraft inspection or maintenance.
- Develop and document repair solutions for primary and secondary aircraft structures in compliance with OEM manuals, FAA regulations, and customer requirements.
- Author and review structural repair instructions (SRIs), engineering orders (EOs), and service bulletins (SBs).
- Perform structural substantiation, stress analysis, and material compatibility assessments as needed.
- Provide real-time engineering support to production and MRO teams during structural assembly, fabrication, and modification.
- Review and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions for structural components.
- Ensure manufacturability and support root cause investigations for production issues (e.g., fit, form, corrosion, damage, or rework).
- Support tooling design, jigs/fixtures validation, and installation sequencing as required.
- Participate in or lead conformity inspections, audits, and certification documentation processes.
- Collaborate with DERs, DARs, and airworthiness representatives when required.
- Interface daily with technicians, inspectors, planners, and quality engineers on the production floor.
- Collaborate with program management, government customers, and suppliers to resolve structural issues or validate repairs.
- Support customer inquiries and technical investigations related to in-service structural issues.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Clearance Requirements: The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance is required. Per federal requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this level of clearance.
