Job/Role Description:
We are looking for an HR Generalist to join us on a 6-month contract. This is a hands-on, generalist opportunity for someone who wants to grow their HR career inside a fast-paced, AI-forward healthcare company.
Reporting directly to the HR Manager, you’ll be the operational backbone of the people function — owning the day-to-day work that keeps employees supported and the business moving. You’ll touch every stage of the employee lifecycle, from onboarding and benefits to performance management, payroll, offboarding, and immigration. Along the way, you’ll partner with the HR Manager on strategic projects and help us continue building AI and automation into how HR operates, so the team can spend less time on administrative drag and more time on the human side of the work.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and administer payroll — gather and verify inputs (hours, new hires, terminations, pay changes, and deductions), work with the HR Manager and Justworks, reconcile discrepancies, and ensure employees are paid accurately and on time, in compliance with wage-and-hour requirements.
- Own day-to-day HR administration, including employee records, HRIS updates, document generation, verifications of employment, and maintaining accurate, audit-ready data.
- Coordinate onboarding for new hires — background checks, I-9s, system access, first-day logistics to ensure every employee starts strong.
- Manage offboarding logistics, including exit paperwork, system deprovisioning, and exit interview scheduling.
- Support the performance management cycle by helping run review cadences, tracking completion, preparing materials, and partnering with HR Manager & Managers on documentation and follow-up.
- Use and help build AI tools to streamline HR work — drafting policies and communications, summarizing documents, triaging employee questions, and prototyping lightweight automations and an internal "HR copilot" alongside the HR Manager.
- Partner with the HR Manager on cross-functional projects spanning employee engagement, policy updates, compliance, training, and culture initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted first point of contact for employee questions, escalating to the HR Manager when needed and always maintaining a high bar for confidentiality and discretion.
- Document processes with clear runbooks so the HR function continues to scale as the company grows.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 3+ years of Hands-on Payroll, HR Operations, or HR-adjacent administrative experience.
- Working knowledge of core HR functions: onboarding, offboarding, benefits administration, performance management, and employment compliance basics.
- Hands-on comfort with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) and genuine interest in using them to improve how HR runs — bonus points for having built or shipped something on your own.
- Experience with an HRIS, ATS, and standard business tools (Google Workspace, Slack, Justworks, Lattice); ability to learn new systems quickly.
- Exceptional attention to detail, organization, and follow-through; you don’t let things slip.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and professionalism.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and juggle competing priorities.
Preferred requirements:
- Experience supporting performance review cycles or benefits open enrollment end-to-end.
- Familiarity with healthcare, high-growth startup, or other regulated industry environments.
- Entrepreneurial DNA: a ‘builder’ mentality with the ability to operate effectively in high-ambiguity environments where processes may not be fully fleshed out.
Work style:
We are a fast-growing, early-stage company with a bold mission and significant work ahead; every employee at Jaan Health must embody growth company DNA. This means you have proven success in a high-performing environment: high velocity, strong ownership, comfort with ambiguity, resilience, and a true growth mindset.
You are both a playbook builder and executor, able to design scalable approaches for today while anticipating what the business will need tomorrow, and then follow through to deliver results.
Our culture is built on five principles that shape how we work, lead, and grow:
- Care: We put patients, clients, teammates, and outcomes first.
- Curiosity: We ask better questions, challenge assumptions, and keep learning.
- Clarity: We simplify complexity, communicate directly, and create alignment.
- Co-Creation: We collaborate across teams, perspectives, and disciplines.
- Craftsmanship: We execute with excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
What You’ll Gain
In this role, you will gain:
- Broad, hands-on HR Generalist experience across the full employee lifecycle
- Direct mentorship from an experienced HR Manager in a high-growth environment
- Exposure to executive leaders and cross-functional teams
- Real ownership of projects with measurable business impact
- Practical experience applying AI and automation to people operations
- A clear path to a full-time role for the right person who delivers
- A collaborative, mission-driven team helping transform healthcare at scale
If you take pride in delivering results, embrace challenges, and proactively seek improvement, then this is the place for you. You’ll join a smart, humble, and collaborative team dedicated to improving healthcare.
