Position Title: Manager, Compound Management
Department: Discovery Research
Reports To: VP of Discovery Research
Job Overview
The Manager of Compound Management will represent and support the Compound Management function in Discovery. The individual will be responsible for EnCarda’s compound inventory and tracking. They will work across functions to deliver samples for biological and biophysical assays to internal and external collaborators. The successful candidate has hands-on experience in compound management and automation in the pharmaceutical industry.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Represent and support the Compound Management function.
- Collaborate with Research Informatics/IT to implement and maintain a compound inventory tracking system.
- Maintain an accurate inventory of samples.
- Prepare plates/samples for biological and biophysical assays.
- Manage the receipt and storage of compounds and samples.
- Operate and troubleshoot bench top instruments as well as automated liquid handling systems.
- Continuously improve and automate compound management workflows in collaboration with research teams.
- Work effectively with multi-disciplinary groups and individuals to implement solutions that reflect operational efficiencies in terms of throughput, delivery, costs, as well as health, safety, and environmental considerations.
- Fulfill weekly and ad hoc compound requests for internal scientists from multiple disciplines.
- Ensure that samples of development-stage compounds are only dispensed with appropriate authorization.
- Coordinate shipping and receiving of samples to external partners.
- Management of direct reports may also be a responsibility.
- Additional responsibilities may be included.
Qualifications and Preferred Skills
- B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related discipline required.
- Ideally 4+ years of applicable experience within the life sciences industry.
- Hands-on experience in compound management and an excellent understanding of underlying processes desired.
- Fluent in industry standards and best practices for compound management technologies and methodologies.
- Experience with liquid handling and common container types across nL and uL and mL volumes.
- Background in handling and weighing of solids at mg and g scales.
- Knowledge of domestic and international shipping of research compounds.
- Proficiency with automation instrumentation and inventory software.
- Experience designing, building, and deploying automated laboratory workflows in life sciences laboratories is a plus.

Pay range
$140,000 - $182,000 USD
