The Associate Head - Learning & Curriculum will play a key role in designing, developing, and managing Karya’s adult learning programs and training content. A core focus of Karya is to ensure that the workers on our platform get continuous opportunities to be skilled in various types of market-relevant digital work. The goal of the Learning and Content sub-team at Karya is to create a user-friendly and pedagogically robust pathway for our low-digital literacy workers to upskill through the Karya App. This individual will be responsible for leading a team of researchers, designers and content developers to create a cohesive learning roadmap. This team will work closely with researchers at the Karya Institute to integrate key learnings from the AI market and skills-mapping activities.
This position offers the opportunity for an experienced adult learning specialist to lead the development of rigorous learning curricula focused on digital skills for employment in the AI workforce.
Location & Reporting
This role is based out of Bengaluru (hybrid office), residence in/shifting to Bengaluru is mandatory. This role may require moderate travel (up to 30%). The post will report to Co-Founder & Chief Impact Officer - Safiya Husain. The Associate Head, Learning & Content position will give the candidate the opportunity to expand, shape and design Karya’s adult learning program. Selected candidates will also engage with a multitude of internal stakeholders, donors, clients, researchers and participants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Learning & Curriculum Development:
- Oversee and build upon the existing learning roadmap, focusing digital skills such as transcription, reinforcement learning, and other tech-driven topics.
- Develop curriculum modules that cater to low-income and low-digital literacy learners, including creating self-paced learning modules, assessments, and interactive content.
- Integrate best practices from the field of instructional design and digital education into the curriculum development process.
- Team Leadership & Collaboration:
- Lead and mentor a cross-functional team of researchers, UX/UI designers and content writers.
- Foster a collaborative environment by working closely with key stakeholders in the organization to align curriculum goals with app functionalities and user feedback.
- Product Development & Field Testing:
- Drive the product development lifecycle for learning features within the app, including concept ideation, design, prototyping, testing, and iterative improvements.
- Manage field testing and pilot programs for new learning modules, collecting data and feedback to refine and optimize learning experiences before full-scale deployment.
- User-Centered Learning Experience:
- Prioritize the development of engaging, accessible, and effective learning experiences that support diverse user groups, from beginners to advanced learners.
- Ensure the curriculum is aligned with user needs and fosters positive learning outcomes through the use of feedback loops and data analytics to track user engagement and progress.
- Alignment with Organizational Goals:
- Ensure that all learning initiatives are aligned with the organization's overall mission, vision, and strategic goals.
- Measure and report on the effectiveness of learning programs, including learner outcomes, user engagement, and retention, and use these insights to drive continuous improvement.
- Innovation & Thought Leadership:
- Stay up to date with the latest trends in adult learning, digital education, and edtech innovations, particularly in the realm of mobile learning and digital skill development.
- Champion new learning methodologies, including gamification, microlearning, and AI-driven personalization, to enhance the learning experience on the app.
Qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Education, Instructional Design, Learning & Development, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in curriculum development, instructional design, or learning experience design, with at least 2 years in a team management role.
- Experience working within the edtech or NGO sector, preferably in a digital learning environment or tech-driven product development.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies (e.g., ADDIE, SAM).
- Experience in designing and developing learning content for digital platforms (e.g., mobile apps, online courses).
- Experience designing instructional content for low-income and low-digital literacy users.
- Ability to lead teams in the creation of scalable, user-centric learning solutions that meet both educational and business goals.
- Experience with product development, including collaborating with technical teams to integrate learning solutions into digital products.
- Familiarity with data-driven approaches to measuring and improving learning outcomes.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
- Desirable:
- Knowledge of reinforcement learning and other emerging technologies in digital education.
- Experience with mobile learning platforms or learning management systems (LMS).
- Familiarity with UX/UI principles and how they relate to the design of digital learning experiences.
