Assistant, Copyright

Nashville

The Role

As a Copyright Assistant in Kobalt Music’s Publishing department, you will play a vital role in the first stages of our global copyright processes. Based in Nashville and working closely with our Copyright team in London, you’ll help ensure the accurate delivery of our clients’ song rights to Collection Societies and sub-publishers around the world.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and deadline-driven team, working in a fast-paced environment where attention to detail and a passion for accuracy are essential. Your work will help secure our clients’ rights and royalties across global databases. If you’re organised, curious, and eager to work in music publishing, this is a great opportunity to grow your career at one of the industry’s most respected companies.

What You’ll Do

  • Submit claims to Collection Societies (e.g. ASCAP, BMI) and sub-publishers, ensuring our clients’ catalogue is accurately represented in global databases.
  • Register new works and agreements, delivering accurate metadata to partners worldwide.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (e.g. Creative, Admin, Legal) to verify song details and resolve registration issues.
  • Communicate with external parties where needed to gather data and clarify discrepancies.
  • Support ongoing process improvements by contributing ideas for automation, efficiency, or improved accuracy.
  • Ensure all data entry and registration tracking is consistent, up-to-date, and audit-ready.

What You’ll Bring

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • A strong attention to detail and ability to work with high volumes of data.
  • Experience using Excel and confidence working with spreadsheets and large datasets.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise in a deadline-driven environment.
  • A proactive mindset—you take initiative, solve problems, and follow through.
  • A genuine interest in music publishing and copyright.
  • Comfort working across international teams and time zones.

Additional Skills That Could Add Value

  • Prior experience in music publishing, rights administration, or music licensing.
  • Understanding of copyright databases and industry systems (e.g. ASCAP, BMI, PRS, CISAC).
  • Familiarity with global repertoire registration practices.
  • Curiosity about automation or process optimization.

What Success Looks Like

In 1 month: You’ll understand Kobalt’s copyright processes and systems and begin submitting claims and work registrations under guidance.
In 3 months: You’ll be independently managing routine registrations and resolving common data issues, while building strong internal communication skills.
In 6 months: You’ll be confidently managing registrations and supporting continuous improvements to workflows and accuracy.
