Position Summary

As a Senior Backend Engineer on the Journey team, you’ll help shape and deliver backend services that power critical engagement features in League’s platform. You’ll work primarily with Go and MongoDB, designing and maintaining APIs that serve server-driven UIs through our next-generation server driven UI framework.

This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy owning meaningful chunks of backend architecture, collaborating closely with product, design, and mobile/web teams, and building scalable, reliable systems that deliver real impact for users navigating their health journey.

In this role, you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain backend APIs and data services for the Journey experience
  • Contribute to our migration to a new server-driven UI framework that powers dynamic UI delivery across all client platforms.
  • Debug and resolve production issues across services, APIs, and data flows
  • Own feature development from planning through release, including writing clear, testable, and maintainable code
  • Participate in architecture and design discussions, advocating for simplicity and scalability
  • Champion quality through code reviews, automated testing, observability, and documentation
  • Participate in a 24x7 on-call rotation and follow operational best practices, including logging, change management, and platform security

About You:

  • Strong experience with backend development, ideally in Go
  • Comfort using AI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor…) to accelerate development, support documentation, or enhance test coverage
  • Proficiency working with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) and designing scalable APIs
  • A product mindset—you care about the “why,” not just the “how”
  • Familiarity with server-driven UI concepts and distributed systems
  • Solid testing and debugging skills, including experience building and maintaining automated test suites
  • The ability to break down complex problems, prioritize effectively, and communicate clearly
  • A track record of mentoring others and improving team processes and engineering practices

Security-related Responsibilities

  • Compliance with Information Security Policies
  • Compliance with League’s secure coding practice
  • Responsibility and accountability for executing League's policies and procedures
  • Notification of HR, Legal, Compliance & Security of any incidents, breaches or policy violations
