Job Summary

The FA (Factory Automation) Technician I supports the safe, reliable operation and maintenance of factory automation and automated material-handling systems under the guidance of experienced technicians and engineers. This entry-level position performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, component replacement, and approved equipment recovery procedures. Complex controls, software, communication, and safety-related issues are documented and escalated to the appropriate technical owner.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections and scheduled preventive maintenance on factory automation equipment using established procedures and checklists.
  • Inspect and monitor AMRs/AGVs, conveyors, stockers, lifters, transfer equipment, sensors, motors, actuators, barcode readers, and related automation systems for abnormal conditions.
  • Assist technicians and engineers with basic mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, sensor, and equipment-control troubleshooting.
  • Perform approved alarm resets, Manual/Auto transitions, and basic equipment recovery procedures within the authorized scope of work.
  • Support replacement of worn or damaged components, as well as equipment cleaning, lubrication, and adjustment.
  • Monitor equipment screens and alarms, including PLC, HMI, ACS, MCS, MES, and CIM interfaces, and escalate issues outside the authorized scope.
  • Support equipment installation, teaching, mapping, docking, PIO, interface testing, commissioning, and production activities under supervision.
  • Accurately document equipment conditions, alarms, repairs, PM activities, test results, and open issues; communicate equipment status during shift handoffs.
  • Read and follow basic mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, work instructions, and maintenance procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Basic knowledge of manufacturing equipment, factory automation, industrial maintenance, or a related technical field.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical components used in automated equipment.
  • Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, and basic electrical measurement devices.
  • Ability to read and follow equipment manuals, electrical/mechanical documentation, safety procedures, checklists, and work instructions.
  • Basic computer skills for reviewing alarms, entering work orders, and completing maintenance documentation.
  • Ability to follow direction, communicate equipment conditions clearly, and work effectively with technicians, engineers, production, and maintenance teams.
  • Ability to identify abnormal equipment conditions and escalate issues appropriately.
  • Ability to work nights, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends, or holidays as required.
  • Commitment to safety, continuous learning, and working effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Able to frequently stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, and reach.
  • Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, steel-toed footwear, hearing protection, protective gloves, clean-room garments, and other PPE required by the work area.
  • Must be able to work over night shift on compressed work schedule, including weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday) as the schedule requires.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Technical certificate, vocational training, or coursework in automation, electrical technology, electronics, mechanical systems, mechatronics, robotics, or industrial maintenance.
  • Previous experience in manufacturing, production, warehouse automation, equipment maintenance, or a similar technical environment.
  • Exposure to AMR/AGV, conveyor, stocker, sensor, motor, pneumatic, PLC, or HMI systems.
  • Basic familiarity with MES, MCS, ACS, CIM, or other manufacturing automation systems.
