The Team

Legal at Liberis exists to help the business go faster - safely. Our mission is to navigate legal and regulatory challenges, reduce risk, and unlock opportunities, all while making sure we don’t become a bottleneck. We’re focused on empowering our colleagues to self-serve where they can, so the business can move quickly and confidently.

The Role

We’re looking for a strategic and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to lead all legal matters in the U.S. and play a key role in shaping our global legal strategy.

Reporting directly to the Chief Legal Officer, you’ll be the go-to advisor for all U.S. legal and regulatory issues - partnering closely with teams across the business to guide product development, support commercial growth, and manage risk. You’ll take ownership of everything from contract negotiation and regulatory guidance to streamlining legal operations and ensuring corporate compliance.

This is a hands-on, high-impact role in a fast-moving, collaborative environment. You’ll also manage a small team and help drive legal best practices as we scale If you enjoy working at pace, solving complex problems, and making a meaningful impact, we’d love to hear from you!

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Play a key leadership role in our legal team - working closely with the Chief Legal Officer to shape legal strategy and ensure we stay ahead as we grow.
  • Lead commercial contract negotiations, including large-scale partnerships and vendor agreements - building playbooks and templates along the way.
  • Provide regulatory guidance across state and federal matters, particularly related to sales-based financing and privacy.
  • Partner with teams across the business to advise on product development, marketing, and go-to-market strategies.
  • Own the legal service desk, supporting day-to-day queries from across the business with commercial, actionable advice.
  • Play a hands-on role in budgeting, legal operations, and driving process improvements within the legal function.
  • Support corporate governance, including U.S. and international filings and corporate secretarial responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the DPO and wider teams on privacy compliance, data protection, and due diligence.
  • Guide international launches, working with local counsel as needed.
  • Lead legal knowledge management, training, and elevate the legal team’s profile internally.
  • Contribute to fast-moving projects, helping the business move quickly while managing risk and compliance.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking a commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment. You’ll be a strategic thinker, strong communicator, and hands-on operator - comfortable working across a broad legal scope and building scalable, business-friendly processes.

You’ll thrive if you are:

  • A solutions-focused legal professional who sees legal as a business enabler, not a blocker.
  • Comfortable collaborating with cross-functional teams to understand challenges and provide pragmatic advice.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about process improvement and legal operations.
  • Proactive and curious, confident stepping into new areas and learning quickly.
  • Tenacious and delivery-focused, with the ability to manage competing priorities and complete projects end-to-end.
  • A collaborative team player who values culture and isn’t afraid to roll up their sleeves when needed.

What you’ll need:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) and admission to the bar in at least one U.S. state.
  • 5+ years of legal experience, ideally in-house.
  • Strong background in contract negotiation, regulatory advisory, and risk mitigation.
  • Familiarity with data privacy, corporate governance, and legal operations.
  • Commercially minded with strong communication skills and the ability to simplify complex legal issues.
  • Interest in legal tech and innovation with a focus on scalable solutions.
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or SME lending is a plus, but not required.

What happens next?

Think this sounds like the right next move for you? Or if you’re not completely confident that you fit our exact criteria, apply anyway and we can arrange a call to see if the role is fit for you. Humility is a wonderful thing, and we are interested in hearing about what you can add to Liberis!

Our hybrid approach

Working together in person helps us move faster, collaborate better, and build a great Liberis culture. Our hybrid working policy requires team members to be in the office at least 3 days a week, but ideally 4 days. At Liberis, we embrace flexibility as a core part of our culture, while also valuing the importance of the time our teams spend together in the office.
