
Sr. Manager, Automation Engineering, Advanced Manufacturing Engineering
As a Sr. Manager, Automation Engineering, you will define and execute the long-term automation and controls strategy for high‑volume, advanced manufacturing operations. You will lead multi‑disciplinary teams to design, deploy, standardize, and scale automation solutions that deliver world‑class safety, quality, cost, and throughput performance across current and future production programs. You will operate as a technical authority and people leader, partnering closely with Manufacturing, Operations, Quality, Product Engineering, IT/OT, Supply Chain, and external automation partners to support rapid production ramps, new product introductions, and continuous operational excellence.
You Will:
- Define and own the enterprise automation and controls strategy and roadmap, aligned to business growth, capacity planning, and product roadmaps across vehicle and powertrain manufacturing.
- Serve as the technical authority and final escalation point for complex, cross‑line, or systemic automation and controls issues impacting production.
- Translate manufacturing and product strategies into scalable automation architectures and capital investment plans, ensuring long‑term flexibility, standardization, and ROI.
- Lead multi‑disciplinary automation engineering teams across powertrain and vehicle manufacturing systems (BIW, Paint, GA), delivering safe, robust, and high‑performance production solutions.
- Establish, govern, and continuously improve best‑in‑class controls, robotics, and equipment standards across manufacturing lines and sites.
- Oversee automation execution across equipment design, FAT, commissioning, startup, and production ramp, ensuring readiness, reliability, and scalability.
- Drive performance improvements in OEE, uptime, yield, throughput, and cycle time through data‑driven automation solutions and structured problem solving.
- Own automation‑related capital planning, prioritization, vendor strategy, and ROI justification, partnering with integrators, OEMs, and technology providers.
- Build, develop, and sustain a high‑performing automation organization, including managers and senior engineers, with clear expectations for capability growth and succession planning.
- Champion smart manufacturing and digital integration, connecting PLCs, robotics, SCADA, MES, and analytics while partnering with IT/OT on cybersecurity and data integrity.
You Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering (Master’s degree preferred).
- 12+ years of progressive experience in automation and controls engineering within high‑volume or advanced manufacturing environments.
- 5+ years of people leadership experience, managing senior engineers, leads, or managers.
- Deep technical expertise in PLC architectures, robotics integration, and automation systems, including Siemens and/or Rockwell platforms, SCADA/HMI, and industrial safety standards (NFPA, IEC).
- Proven ability to balance technical depth, organizational leadership, and business outcomes, with strong executive‑level communication and cross‑functional influence.
