Senior Accountant, Digital Assets

SUMMARY 

The Digital Assets Accountant is responsible for managing the day-to-day upkeep of Digital Assets activity including schedules to track daily activity and journal entries to record Digital Assets activity. This role will prepare journal entries, account reconciliations and analyses while establishing as needed, and following best practices, policies, and procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). In addition, this role is ideal for a detail-oriented, results-driven accounting professional who thrives in a dynamic, technology-driven environment. The Digital Assets Accountant will work closely with cross-functional teams, including Finance, Operations, and Asset Management, to ensure the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of financial data related to Digital Assets. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES  

Include the following. Other duties may be assigned. 

  • Own various accounting close processes, specifically related to digital assets and revenue. 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records for all Digital Assets transactions, including but not limited to purchases, sales, transfers, lending, collateral, investments and SMA. 
  • Prepare the Digital Assets Production Report and present monthly financial reports on Bitcoin production and performance metrics. 
  • Support audits (internal and external) by providing required documentation and analysis. 
  • Collaborate with the Digital Assets team to ensure timely receipt of key reports, transaction histories, and other relevant financial data to track Digital Assets activity. 
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and all relevant regulatory requirements, including capital gains reporting from the Digital Assets cost basis. 
  • Track Digital Assets Cost Basis for all Digital Assets lots, including but not limited to tracking movement to custodians and exchanges and tracking Cost Basis by wallet. 
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and automation to increase efficiency. 
  • Assist in implementing and utilizing accounting systems and other tools to streamline internal processes and daily operations. 
  • Perform other duties and ad hoc projects as assigned or as necessary. 

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE and SKILLS 

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA certification preferred 
  • A minimum of 2+ years or relevant accounting experience is required. Public Accounting experience is preferred. 
  • Strong knowledge of all current General Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and financial reporting. 
  • Experience with Sarbanes-Oxley documentation and testing requirements. 
  • Strong computer skills with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems (NetSuite preferred) 
  • Experience with trading activities, including but not limited to Digital Asset derivatives and option trading.  
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills 
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. 
  • Understanding of Blockchain / Crypto Currency ecosystem, including but not limited to the process of mining Digital Assets
