Internal Audit Manager
As Marqeta’s Internal Audit Manager, you will lead and oversee critical audit activities to ensure the effectiveness of financial reporting controls and IT compliance in alignment with regulatory standards. You’ll manage a high-performing team, including Senior Auditors and Senior Technology Auditors, fostering collaboration across departments to strengthen Marqeta’s governance framework. This role involves executing risk-based audit plans, providing strategic recommendations to leadership, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to enhance compliance, mitigate risks, and support organizational excellence.
This role can be performed in a hybrid work model (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday onsite) from our Warsaw office. We’d love for you to join us!
The Impact You’ll Have
- Lead and manage the internal audit team in Poland, ensuring financial reporting controls and compliance with regulatory standards are effective and aligned with corporate governance best practices.
- Oversee the design and operating effectiveness testing of internal controls, providing strategic guidance to mitigate risks, enhance compliance, and improve operational efficiency across the organization.
- Collaborate with Finance, IT, and Operations teams to ensure the accuracy and completeness of SOX documentation, timely testing, and effective remediation of control deficiencies.
- Execute risk-based audit plans, focusing on high-impact areas, and contribute to the organization’s overall governance framework by identifying opportunities for process optimization and risk reduction.
- Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, providing insights and recommendations to enhance the control environment and align with evolving regulatory requirements.
- Manage and mentor a team of senior auditors, including the Senior Auditor and Senior Technology Auditor, fostering their professional growth and ensuring high-quality audit execution.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and external auditors, ensuring seamless collaboration and alignment with organizational objectives.
Who You Are
- A seasoned audit professional with 5+ years of experience leading internal or external audits within banking, financial institutions, or Big 4 accounting firms.
- Proficient in designing, assessing, and improving internal controls, with a deep understanding of governance frameworks like COSO, EU regulatory requirements (e.g., CSRD, GDPR), and risk management practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams, providing guidance and support to ensure successful completion of complex audit engagements.
- Skilled at evaluating enterprise-wide risks, recommending solutions, and effectively communicating findings to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
- Highly organized and analytical, with exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects in dynamic, fast-paced environments.
Nice-To-Haves
- Advanced certifications such as CIA (Certified Internal Auditor), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), or PIBR (Polish Chamber of Statutory Auditors), showcasing expertise in audit and compliance.
- Deep familiarity with EU regulations applicable to financial institutions, such as MiFID II, CRR/CRD, and GDPR.
- Experience with ERP and auditing platforms, including SAP, Oracle, Comarch ERP, or AuditBoard, to streamline audit processes.
- Expertise in financial reporting standards such as IFRS and local GAAP, relevant to banking and financial services industries.
- Proven experience in implementing risk management strategies within highly regulated environments, driving continuous improvement across compliance and operational functions.
