Staff Full Stack Engineer

We’re looking for a Full-Stack Staff Engineer with a strong frontend orientation to drive technical excellence across Melio’s AP Platform group. You’ll take ownership of complex, high-impact infrastructure initiatives—elevating frontend and backend quality, improving performance and reliability, shaping our engineering standards, and enabling 3 teams to move faster with cleaner, scalable, partner-agnostic solutions.

Qualifications:

• 10+ years of experience building modern web applications in a full-stack environment.
• Prior experience in a Technical Lead role, with an advantage for candidates who have led multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in TypeScript and React, including building scalable, reusable, and maintainable frontend architectures.
• Experience developing backend services and APIs using Node.js, Python, or similar.
• Experience with testing frameworks (Jest, Cypress, Playwright).
• Demonstrated ability to craft smart, high-impact solutions that unblock teams and significantly accelerate delivery.
• Highly motivated, driven, and independent, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

Bonus points:

• Passion for clean abstractions, scalable frontend patterns, and long-term technical thinking.
• Experience with performance profiling, monitoring and observability across FE & BE.

A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:

• Lead and execute complex infrastructure and platform projects that improve velocity and quality across 3 engineering teams.
• Design and build frontend platform tools that keep our partner-facing interfaces clean, generic, and fully extendable.
• Own cross-company technical challenges - performance, resilience, monitoring gaps, architectural bottlenecks - delivering long-term solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering leads and the group director as the go-to IC for hard technical problems and missing infra.
• Build shared full-stack services, libraries, and tools that elevate engineering standards and streamline development workflows.

The Engineering department is the backbone of Melio. We build, scale, and maintain the technical infrastructure that processes over $100B in annual payments for small businesses nationwide.

Following our acquisition by Xero, we're tackling an even more exciting challenge: integrating Melio's payment platform with Xero's accounting software to create a unified financial ecosystem. This means building robust, scalable systems that seamlessly connect two powerful platforms while maintaining the security and reliability that financial services demand.

We use TypeScript and Python for consistency, combining relational and document databases, and deploy via SAM CLI built on CloudFormation.
