Position Summary: Under general direction of the Farm Manager, this position works in all aspects of small-scale sustainable food production. The Job includes all ongoing tasks associated with vegetable production and will also support the farm’s outreach, education, and community support programs. The Market Farm Crew Member is a position that requires at least 1 year of farming experience, preferably in a market farm setting. This position is 40 hours a week, from Mid-April through the end of October, primarily Monday-Friday with frequent evening hours and occasional weekend hours.
Compensation & Benefits:
- $25.00/hr
- A seasonal farm assistant would not be eligible for benefits (other than 403b retirement but would not be eligible for the company match).
The posted range represents the full hiring range. Offers will not exceed this range, the majority of candidates are placed near the midpoint based on experience and qualifications.
Job Duties & Functions:
- Assist in all aspects of planting, cultivating, harvesting of crops, and maintaining plant health in coordination with the Market Farm Manager and Farm Assistant.
- Provide accurate record-keeping and reporting on farm outcomes including harvest totals, seed dates and transplant dates.
- Help prepare and coordinate produce distribution including farm stand, pantry, subscriptions, food access, and donation programs.
- Follow all food safety protocols
- Assist in planning for and attending special Farm-related events at the Dahlia Campus for Health and Well-Being and occasionally off-site
- Attend meetings with Farms and Gardens partners and outreach team, as appropriate
- Facilitate communication and understanding of site programs, services, goals and values.
- Be present for/assist with field trips, farm tours, volunteer days, cooking demonstrations/classes, and various social events throughout the year, as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
- 1 Year of farming experience required, 2 years is preferred. Experience in a similar urban/small scale agriculture environment is a plus. Must be familiar with use of handheld tools such as broadfork, scuffle hoe, bow rake.
- Experience working with volunteers, children (pre-k through 12), people with disabilities, and diverse communities and individuals is a plus.
- Experience working in farmers’ markets is highly desirable.
- Marketing and sales of produce and/or other products, a plus
- Basic understanding of biology, chemistry, and/or soil sciences
- Some experience with Microsoft Office, Square POS, database management
- Fluency in Spanish is highly desirable.

Shift/Hours: April through the end of October, primarily Monday-Friday with frequent evening hours and occasional weekend hours.
Physical Requirements: Ability to give, receive and analyze information, formulate work plans, prepare written materials and articulate goals and action plans. Must be able to assess risk and challenges quickly and develop an effective response. Must understand people from all walks of life and be able to communicate effectively with them. Maintain flexible schedule. Frequent early morning, evening, and weekend responsibilities. Wednesday, all day during market season is required (must be able to attend at least 14/16 markets).
