Vice President, Data Engineering and Analytics

The Role

As we continue to expand, we are looking for an exceptional leader to lead the Data Analytics and Engineering team. You will report directly to the CTO and own the entire Metropolis data platform - including the Data Engineering platform and the Business Intelligence systems used to visualize the data. You will be a strategic partner to senior leaders across the company. You will rely on your expertise with OLAP and OLTP data systems to ensure that the data platform is architected in a way that evolves with the needs of the business. You will support scaling our data infrastructure to support the next generation of AI products that we are building, and you will play a key role in the design and architecture of the evolving platform. You will lead the execution of our commercial data product that will be a key driver in positioning Metropolis as the thought leader in mobility-related analytics. Your strong foundational data skills will give you the ability to translate insights into information that is actionable to a wide range of stakeholders, across different levels of technical expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the full cycle of the analytics workflow, from the data platform architecture to data collection from internal and external sources to analysis and visualization
  • Own the flow of data across various systems and applications and work with the teams across Engineering and Product to ensure data accuracy and integrity
  • Drive thought leadership in collaboration with Product, Operations and Sales teams to commercialize the Metropolis data analytics
  • Build an external facing Metropolis analytics product that would provide our clients and partners with actionable insights that align with their goals
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, and grow a talented team of directors, managers, analysts, and data engineers
  • Work closely with the Product, Operations, Finance, and Sales teams in developing data products to power personalization, optimize conversion rates, analyze field research data and increase revenue
  • Own the end-to-end performance of the data analytics and engineering platform. Lead the development of a data platform that ensures that reports meet page load SLA’s, regardless of the level of report customization and data growth.
  • Own the Data Ops function and develop a strategy that ensures data accuracy and consistency.
  • Develop a set of monitoring systems that would proactively alert key stakeholders when there are issues with the data

 

Requirements and Qualifications

  •  Undergraduate degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, AI, ML, or a similar technical field. Master's and/or Ph.D. a plus.
  • 15+ years’ experience in software engineering and data analytics with at least 6+ years of experience leading data analytics teams.
  • Ability to lead and grow a diverse team of leaders, analysts, data engineers and data scientists.
  • Experience being the lead point of contact, consulting with and problem solving with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience defining the strategy and leading the development of the data platform that can scale with the business and powers all analytics.
  • Very strong data manipulation and database modelling skills. Deep expertise in SQL, data modeling, and warehousing.
  • Experience working with large scale data systems and solid knowledge of ETL processes.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and a strong ability to explain insight extracted from complex data in a way that everyone across multiple technical skill levels would understand.
  • Experience in business intelligence software such as Tableau, Looker, or similar.
  • Experience leading offshore teams would be a plus.

Our goal is to build an inclusive culture where everyone has a voice and the best idea wins. You will play a key role in building and maintaining this culture as our organization grows. The anticipated base salary for this position is $240,000.00 to 290,000.00 annually. The actual base pay offered is determined by a number of variables, including, as appropriate, the applicant's qualifications for the position, years of relevant experience, distinctive skills, level of education attained, certifications or other professional licenses held, and the location of residence and/or place of employment. Base pay is one component of Metropolis’s total compensation package, which may also include access to or eligibility for healthcare benefits, a 401(k) plan, short-term and long-term disability coverage, basic life insurance, a lucrative stock option plan, bonus plans and more.
