📍London | UK remote | Benefits | Hear from the team

About us:

We’re here to make money work for everyone and we're doing things differently. For too long, banking has been obtuse, complex and opaque.

We want to change that and build a bank with everyone, for everyone. Our amazing community suggests features, test the app and give us constant feedback so we can build something everyone loves.

We're focused on solving problems, rather than selling financial products. We want to make the world a better place and change people's lives through Monzo.

About our Data Science Team:

We're looking for a Senior Data Science Manager within our Operations team to help build world class service for the bank of the future. As a key leader, you will take ownership of all data-related aspects of our end-to-end view of supply and demand within Operations. You will play a critical role in shaping and supporting how we think about forecasting, real-time routing strategy, and our workforce management. Additionally, you will oversee our foundational data platforms, identifying and driving opportunities to enhance our current capabilities. Your expertise will be pivotal in allowing us to scale our workforce into new markets and working with partners internally and externally to ensure we can design and build a first class system to meet our customers’ needs.

At Monzo, we're building a bank that is fair, transparent and a delight to use. We’re growing extremely fast and have over 10 million customers in the UK, with over 200,000 new people joining every month. We’ve built a product that people love and more than 80% of our growth comes from word of mouth and referrals.

This is a great opportunity to shape the future direction of how we serve our customers, enabling data to ensure we can provide a world class efficient service for all of Monzos customers, as we lay the foundations to build a best in class analytics function. You’ll work closely within our Operations Collective with product and engineering teams to build out our forecasting and routing systems, while partnering with our core operations team to enable a fast and agile workforce.

We have a strong culture of data-driven decision making across the whole company. And we're great believers in powerful, real-time analytics and empowerment of the wider business.

As part of this role you’ll:

  • Lead our forecasting approach to understand customer problems and how this scales with customer growth and product adoption
  • Lead our real-time routing approaches, weighing off complexity and impact to understand how we react to demand with our workforce
  • Responsibility of the improvement and maintenance of our forecasting accuracy metrics, routing metrics, and operations performance metrics
  • Building our analytics roadmap, thinking short term and long term in partnership with a cross functional team inclusive of machine learning engineers, analytics engineers, data analysts and data scientists
  • Build close relationships with the senior Operations leadership, informing and aligning on strategy whilst also promoting visibility of the performance of our predictive models
  • Lead your team to democratise data across Operations, specifically training and upskilling Operations managers and enable self-serve data products
  • Be a key leader in building a discipline of exceptional data scientists working on making Monzo world class at tackling operations problems
  • Have the opportunity to manage exceptional Data Scientists and help their career progression and development

You should apply if:

  • You have multiple years of experience in Operations data, with 3 or more years working in Senior or Lead positions within Data Science or Analytics - (bonus if you have a background in operations research or experience in queuing theory)
  • You consider yourself an empathetic leader and have experience managing data scientists and you really enjoy that part of the job
  • You’re as comfortable getting hands-on as well as taking a step back and thinking strategically and proactively identifying opportunities
  • You have both technical and non-technical experience working together and collaborating with senior business partners and product teams
  • You are able to communicate complex information in a clear and relatable way.
  • You're familiar with using a variety of Data Science tools (from business intelligence, advanced forecasting, experimentation and causal inference through to machine learning), and coding languages (Python and SQL). You know when to pick the right tool, and can help others do the same
  • You have experience working on a product analytics role and have conducted large scale A/B experiments
  • You’ve worked closely with machine learning teams and have a good understanding of how machine learning can be applied to Operations

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
