Summary

The Senior Assignment Manager will oversee and manage editorial content across NFL Network, NFL.com, the NFL App, and NFL RedZone, including headlines, and breaking news. Additionally, the role will manage the news desk staff and work with reporters and Insiders to cultivate news and information. This position reports directly to the Executive Editor and requires making sound editorial decisions both independently and collaboratively with a team, often under deadlines and pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with newsroom, NFL Media's reporters, producers, and content creators to develop NFL and college football content across multiple platforms, including TV, digital, FAST channels, and podcasts.
  • Serve as the editorial and content producer for "The Insiders,” the NFL’s primetime news program. This individual will contribute significantly to the program's continued success on NFL Network, podcast platforms, YouTube, and the NFL FAST Channel.
  • Supervise editorial coverage of key events including gameday, draft, college pro days, bowl games, scouting combines, and the Super Bowl.
  • Maintain strong working relationship with essential personnel at all 32 NFL teams and key individuals within League offices. Previous experience working with NFL teams and the League preferred.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with reporters and public relations contacts from various media outlets and universities nationwide. Work closely with collegiate Sports Information Directors (SIDs) when necessary.
  • Analyze fan engagement metrics for broadcast and digital content to maintain maximum audience reach.
  • Provide daily editorial notes to NFL Media executive leadership, producers, and content creators highlighting top-performing content and trending NFL stories.
  • Conduct daily editorial meetings with producers and desk staff.
  • Oversee and work with managers to ensure accuracy on the NFL Network news ticker. 
  • Coordinate directly with planning editors to determine strategic editorial decisions for NFL football coverage.
  • Align with the breaking news production team to ensure around-the-clock coverage of NFL news.

Required Qualifications

  • 7-10 years of experience directly leading a staff of 10+ employees.
  • Previous experience working in an active newsroom environment; sports news experience preferred.
  • Availability to work non-conventional hours, including weekends, as necessary.
  • Proven ability to make decisions calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Strong collaborative skills, balanced with the capacity to make independent decisions.
  • Proficiency in writing and editing for both published stories and broadcast scripts.
  • Competence with the latest newsroom technology.
  • Experience working directly with control rooms and producers in high-pressure situations is a must.

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • Full-time, 40 hours/week
  • Must be available weekends as needed

Salary / Pay Range

Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.

 

Salary

$120,000 - $150,000 USD

This role requires onsite presence at an NFL office or stadium location, and remote and/or hybrid working options are not offered.
