The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) manages the efficient flow of electricity on more than 11,000 circuit-miles of high-voltage transmission lines, dispatching power from hundreds of generating units across the state.

The New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) applies cutting-edge technology to operating a reliable electricity system, managing competitive markets for wholesale electricity, and planning for the Empire State's energy future.  The NYISO’s Market Structures department invites applications for a full-time Senior Business Process Architect to join the team.

A Senior Business Process Architect will partner with business owners and subject matter experts to help them analyze their needs, define their requirements, and then configure solutions within the NYISO’s compliance software platform. The Architect will design and implement automated workflows with their business counterparts to provide assurance that the solution complies with all stakeholder requirements, including external regulators, Market Participants, the Board and the Senior Management Team. The Senior Architect will provide leadership and direction in the use of process disciplines, methodologies and software tools to business process architects and business owners in order to facilitate alignment with NYISO’s Strategic Plan and Business Objectives.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead Business Process Analysis efforts as assigned by Manager or as requested by business process owners.
    • Utilizing disciplines and workflow tools (including, but not limited to AssurX, Microsoft Teams, ServiceNow, Process Maps, RACI, etc.)
    • Understand and document internal and external requirements to improve the overall effectiveness and efficiency of the process
    • Lead formal project teams
  • Lead business process owners and project teams, individually and in groups, in the scoping, planning, designing, execution, and continuous improvement of workflow automation efforts utilizing the most appropriate discipline and tools (e.g., AssurX, Teams, etc.).
  • On an ongoing basis, lead Business Impact Analysis reviews due to significant triggers including (but not limited to) Organizational, Regulatory, Process & Systems Changes; Risk & Performance indicators; Enterprise-wide risks/problems/opportunities; or as requested.
  • Provide Process and Internal Controls recommendations. Work with process owners and Subject Matter Experts to ensure that internal controls are established, properly documented, maintained, and adhered to throughout the enterprise.
  • Educate organization on Business Process Management (BPM) disciplines and tools.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert in BPM tools, performance metrics and process analysis across the organization.
    • Serve on formal project teams as needed
  • Assist Manager in identification and prioritization of efforts that tie to corporate strategies and business objectives.
  • Assist in the development and mentoring of Business Process Architects to ensure the team is providing consistent, high-quality services to the organization.
  • Lead efforts to standardize documentation and processes within the workflow automation tools leveraging industry best practices to facilitate the ease of use and adoption to tools within the organization.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (BS/BA) required; Master’s Degree or other advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven years of relevant industry or professional experience required. Business Process Analysis or related disciplines (there may be overlap)
  • Understanding of power industry and/or commodity markets and/or business experience in electric power systems or wholesale electric markets is highly desirable
  • Equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
  • Programming skills including Transact-SQL, pl/SQL, Java, JavaScript, HTML, HTML5, and CSS, required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with SQL involving multiple, complex queries
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience with SAP Crystal Reports
  • Experience with VB.Net, C# is a plus

 

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from market participants, regulatory agencies or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and/or boards of directors.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of geometry / trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations. Understand and interpret engineering studies and analyze results. Ability to validate methods used in engineering studies.
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
  • Intermediate competency in Windows operating environment using MS Office applications, e-mail and internet programs. Proficient in common statistical analysis software programs. Create complex charts and graphs using spreadsheet and database programs.  Use of Business Process Management tools to design, implement and maintain business processes. Working understanding of database structures including the use of SQL and other languages is required. Understanding of development methodologies and concepts such as software development lifecycle including change management is highly desirable.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and use hands to perform routine office tasks. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Contact with staff and public will occur. Travel may be required to attend and/or conduct meetings, conferences and training. This position may require work on nights, weekends or holidays.
