Tech Lead Manager
What You’ll Need
- 12+ years of software development work experience
- An excellent technical/engineering track record is required and previous people management experience is desired.
- Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent training or work experience
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate complex topics in an effective and concise manner
- Proven expertise in complex API and data model design for extensible backend microservices. Ideally, experienced with Go, Python, and Postgres.
- Strong engineering fundamentals: excellent coding and debugging skills, domain-driven design, software/computer architecture, and algorithms.
- Project management experience with a strong sense of ownership and customer focus
About the Role
The Pricing Platform team is at the heart of Opendoor’s business. The pricing of real estate requires consistent and precise orchestration of highly-complex real estate and financial data across automated machine learning systems, human operators and tools, and customer-facing APIs. The innovative systems built by the Pricing Platform team will accelerate Opendoor’s ability to efficiently manage a multi-billion dollar portfolio as well as improve the manner by which we interact with customers to buy-and-sell real estate to drive hundreds of millions in new revenue.
As a Staff Software Engineer Tech Lead Manager, you will hire and lead a team in a challenging, high-impact technical space with significant exposure to stakeholders and the business. You will be a leader within a growing, autonomous organization in India that is re-defining technical excellence across data, analytics, ML, and pricing for Opendoor. This role is perfect for a highly-technical, entrepreneurial, emerging leader looking to found a team and grow with it as we expand Opendoor’s Hyderabad office.
What You’ll Do
- Partner with your engineering and product leaders across organizations to define the team’s roadmap and technical strategy
- Hire, lead, and manage a small team of software engineers; provide guidance, feedback, and support to foster their growth and development.
- Set the team standard for engineering craft and quality, mentor team members, and foster a collaborative team environment.
- Take ownership and actively contribute to all phases of the software development cycle–from ideation to release–prioritizing both the immediate business impact and long-term sustainability
- Collaborate with various stakeholders–across product, engineering, business, and operations–to align to and execute on Opendoor’s pricing strategy
- Play an active role in hiring, mentoring, and setting the bar for senior engineering talent on the team
- Promote a positive, engaging engineering culture focused on fast delivery of high-impact, high-quality products that encourages team members to strive for excellence in every project
Bonus points if you have
- Experience working in or alongside business-critical machine-learning and/or financial systems
- Full-stack experience is not required, but experience with backend services that support complex human-in-the-loop workflows and tools is a plus.
