Position Description
The Technical Content Developer, reporting to the Director of Field Training and Development ensures standardization and clarity for all field O&M procedures and training materials. As needed, the Technical Content Developer will work with internal representatives from field operations, control room operations, account management, compliance, EHS, and technical training to create, modify, and update work process controls and training content. Additionally, the Technical Content Developer may consult with OEM partners and other external stakeholders for information and guidance, where appropriate.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, write, and edit technical documentation, field operating and maintenance procedures, user guides, manuals, and instructional materials
- Manage documentation and training projects from initiation to delivery
- Maintain and update existing documentation and training materials as needed
- Ensure documentation and training materials follow accessibility guidelines and standards
Technical Writing:
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather accurate and up-to-date information
- Develop information architecture and administer a document management system
- Ensure consistency in tone, style, and formatting across all materials
- Incorporate multimedia elements, such as images, diagrams, videos, and animations, to enhance understanding and engagement
- Create or work with graphic designers and multimedia specialists to develop job aids or quick reference guides
- Conduct usability testing and gather feedback from end-users
- Implement version control and change management processes
- Ensure the accuracy and relevance of content over time
Instructional Design:
- Conduct periodic job-task analyses of operational roles to develop qualification books
- Analyze training needs and identify learning objectives according to a systematic approach
- Design and develop engaging and effective training materials, including instructor-led presentations, eLearning modules, and interactive group exercises
- Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theories to create impactful learning experiences
Preferred Qualifications
- 3+ years’ experience in technical writing, instructional design, or combination of both
- Ability to understand and accurately translate technical information for specialized or general audiences
- UI/UX experience
- Familiarity with content- and learning management systems (CMS and LMS)
- Familiarity with documentation publishing software
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in English, writing, communications, curriculum development, industrial/electrical engineering, or a related field
- Specialized training in technical writing or instructional design a plus
- Prior experience in operations or production environments a plus

Location Austin Office, with a hybrid work schedule (2 days a week from home)
Travel Up to 15% travel required as needed to perform job duties
