As a Director of Enterprise Data Platform, you will lead the data product development and engineering efforts driving the data infrastructure that powers internal data analytics at PitchBook. You will ensure the platform is robust, scalable, and aligned with the company’s strategic objectives. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams, you will play a critical role in enabling seamless data integration, transformation, and accessibility across our data ecosystem. This role offers a unique opportunity to blend deep technical expertise with leadership skills, driving impactful change in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
You will build and lead a team of talented data product managers, data engineers, and data analysts responsible for developing and maintaining our enterprise data platform. You will train and mentor team members, identify and resolve technical challenges, oversee the integrity of data pipelines, and ensure that our data infrastructure is optimized for performance, reliability, and security.
This is a backend-focused role, leveraging your strong background in cloud-based data platforms, analytics engineering, and modern data processing frameworks. You will use your knowledge of distributed data systems, event streaming, ETL/ELT, and data governance to build and maintain solutions that support business intelligence, reporting, and operational decision-making. You will ensure your team masters our data business domains, maintaining ownership and accountability for their deliverables. You will oversee the development of strong data pipelines, aligning with automated build and CI/CD pipelines and cloud-native delivery.

Primary Job Responsibilities:
- Enterprise Data Platform Leadership: Drive the strategic vision and roadmap for the enterprise data platform, ensuring alignment with business goals and technology initiatives
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead and mentor a high-performing team of data product managers and data engineers, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and excellence in delivery. Provide guidance and support to ensure team growth and success, empowering them with autonomy and ownership
- Data Product Development & Data Modeling: Oversee the development of internal data products, expertly modeled, abstracted, and unified from source datasets, able to be referenced by and democratized throughout PitchBook as single sources of truth for trusted downstream analytics
- Data Pipelines: Oversee the design and management of complex ETL/ELT pipelines, ensuring efficient data ingestion, transformation, and storage to support real-time and batch processing
- Cloud Data Platforms: Leverage modern cloud-based technologies (e.g., Snowflake or equivalent) to ensure optimal data storage and accessibility, focusing on high performance and cost-effectiveness
- Messaging and Streaming Solutions: Lead the adoption and integration of event streaming and messaging platforms (e.g., Kafka), enhancing data processing and real-time analytics capabilities
- Data Governance: Implement and maintain best practices in data governance, quality, security, and compliance to meet internal and external regulatory requirements. Oversee company-wide data ontology, provenance, and observability capabilities for enterprise data
- Platform Optimization & Integration: Ensure that our data platform is robust, optimized, and seamlessly integrated. Lead efforts to enhance system performance, drive innovation, and implement scalable solutions that align with the company’s strategic objectives
- Technical Leadership: Leverage your strong background in data platforms, data engineering, and cloud technologies to drive the technical direction of our data infrastructure. Ensure the adoption of best practices in data processing, cloud-native delivery, and automation
- Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to align engineering efforts with business goals. Translate complex technical concepts into actionable business strategies to drive impactful change
- System Integrity & Performance: Oversee the integrity of data systems and ensure high standards of performance, reliability, and security in the systems developed by your team. Vigilantly identify and resolve impediments, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within scope
- Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Drive innovation within the data platform. Continuously seek opportunities to improve processes, tools, and systems, ensuring our technology remains at the cutting edge
- Talent Acquisition & Retention: Play a key role in hiring, training, and retaining top engineering talent. Set a high bar for performance, create opportunities for professional growth, and cultivate an environment where team members feel valued and motivated

Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in data engineering with deep experience in data platform management, data product management, analytics engineering, and data modeling
- 8+ years in an engineering leadership role with direct management responsibilities of at least 5 people
- 3+ years in an engineering leadership role managing managers
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring engineering teams
- Expert-level skills in Python and SQL
- Deep understanding of cloud-based data platforms (e.g., Snowflake) and related technologies, including data processing frameworks and messaging platforms
- Experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and Docker, and an understanding of cloud-scale delivery, including scalability, resiliency, and recoverability
- Experience with data architecture across highly scalable, distributed systems
- Solid understanding of software development methodologies, Agile practices, and DevOps principles
- Excellent problem-solving skills with a focus on innovation, efficiency, and scalability
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Experience in the financial industry or B2B platforms is a plus
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, with advanced Outlook, Word, and Excel skills with the ability to pick up new systems and software easily

Compensation
- Annual base salary: $240,000-$290,000
- Target annual bonus percentage: 25%
*Starting pay will be based on several factors and commensurate with qualifications & experience. We also have a location-based compensation structure; there may be different ranges for candidates by location.
Working Conditions:
We believe our business and our culture are strongest when we work together in person. We also know that it’s helpful to have some flexibility to work remotely. Most roles work in the office 3+ days/week, and some are expected to work in the office 4-5 days/week. The current expectation for this role is that you are working in the office 4+ days/week and that you are in the office full-time during the training period, for which the length varies by role. During an initial phone screen, the team will discuss expectations for this specific position.
The job conditions for this position are in a standard office setting. Employees in this position use PC and phone on an on-going basis throughout the day. Limited corporate travel may be required to remote offices or other business meetings and events.
