About the Role:  

As a Customer Success Manager for Japan, you will be responsible for managing and expanding relationships with military and governmental agencies across Japan. Your mission will be to act as our main point of contact for our customers during their time with Planet’s contract life cycle and own your focus on customer retention and satisfaction.  You will help customers maximize the value of Planet’s imagery and geospatial solutions, ensuring that they can effectively integrate Planet data into their workflows for applications.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with Japanese military and/ or government agencies, and a strong ability to navigate complex government structures, decision-making processes, and interagency relationships. The ability to identify and build connections between ministries and stakeholders will be key to driving adoption and impact across government initiatives.

This is a full-time, remote position based in Japan.

Impact You’ll Own:

  • Build and maintain strong, long-lasting relationships with government customers, ensuring they achieve their mission objectives using Planet’s products.
  • Identify expansion opportunities within existing accounts and collaborate with sales teams to drive renewals and upsells.
  • Work closely with customers to facilitate training, onboarding, and best practices on integrating Planet data into GIS and remote sensing workflows.
  • Act as the voice of the customer internally, advocating for feature enhancements and product improvements based on feedback.
  • Work closely with sales, product, and marketing teams to support customer needs, case studies, and events.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to share insights on the current status of key accounts and contribute to the development of strategies for future success.

What You Bring:

  • Ability to successfully manage customer relationships.
  • 4+ years of experience in Customer Success, Account Management, or a related field
  • Good working knowledge of GIS, remote sensing, and Earth observation technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Japanese
  • Proficiency in English, the language of the company.
  • Experience working with Japanese government agencies, as well as enterprise customers
  • Experience working cross-functionally with sales, product, and technical teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize job requirements
  • Willingness to travel.

What Makes You Stand Out:

  • Customer Success or Account Management experience serving Japanese military and/or government customers.
  • Understanding of Japanese government agencies, their procurement processes, and key initiatives related to defense & intelligence, and emergency management.
  • Experience with platforms like ArcGIS, QGIS, or Google Earth Engine.
  • Active armed forces reserve or veteran as a relevant intelligence professional
