Director of Compliance

United States

About us

Pomelo Care is a multi-disciplinary team of clinicians, engineers and problem solvers who are passionate about improving care for moms and babies. We are transforming outcomes for pregnant people and babies with evidence-based pregnancy and newborn care at scale. Our technology-driven care platform enables us to engage patients early, conduct individualized risk assessments for poor pregnancy outcomes, and deliver coordinated, personalized virtual care throughout pregnancy, NICU stays, and the first postpartum year. We measure ourselves by reductions in preterm births, NICU admissions, c-sections and maternal mortality; we improve outcomes and reduce healthcare spend.

Role Description

We are looking for a seasoned and strategic Director of Compliance to join and support our Legal, Privacy & Compliance team. This leadership role, reporting to the General Counsel, will be responsible for maturing and scaling our existing compliance program. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of building and enhancing compliance infrastructure in a fast-paced startup environment. You will be instrumental in ensuring our healthcare operations remain in compliance with applicable state and federal regulations by driving risk assessments, leading audits and maturing our policy framework. We are looking for someone who is collaborative, adaptable, and can effectively partner cross-functionally to foster a strong, embedded culture of compliance.

What You’ll Do

  • Program Leadership: Own the maturation and execution of Pomelo’s healthcare compliance program, including leading the development and execution of Pomelo’s annual compliance risk assessment and work plan. Chair quarterly Compliance Committee meetings, including developing agendas and pre-read materials, tracking action items, and surfacing risk themes and emerging trends for leadership discussion.
  • Monitoring and Reporting: Establish systems for detecting, investigating, and resolving compliance concerns. Provide regular reports to the General Counsel and the Compliance Committee on compliance activities and outcomes.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Serve as a key compliance resource and strategic partner to teams across the organization. Partner with cross-functional teams to embed compliance considerations into product and operational development to ensure new initiatives and workflows align with internal policies. This includes establishing compliance guardrails for the use of AI in product and operational workflows.
  • Training and Education: Support the development, implementation and monitoring of compliance training materials. Conduct training sessions as needed and help identify opportunities to reinforce policy adoption and awareness across teams.
  • Incident Management & Auditing: Oversee the investigation of compliance concerns, incidents, and complaints. Support responses to internal and external audits, investigations, inquiries and routine compliance reporting, including gathering documentation, coordinating cross-functional input and tracking follow-up actions, with an understanding of how compliance activities support broader privacy and security frameworks (e.g., SOC2 and HITRUST).
  • Regulatory Monitoring: Stay current on evolving healthcare regulations and digital health trends, particularly in telehealth. Translate new requirements into actionable program adjustments to support scalable growth.

Who You Are

  • You have a Bachelor’s degree and at least 7 years of experience in healthcare compliance (e.g., regulatory compliance, telehealth, privacy, supporting frameworks like SOC2 and HITRUST), with a significant portion of that time spent in a startup, telehealth or digital health environment.
  • You have a professional compliance certification such as a Certification in Healthcare Compliance and experience managing others in a compliance setting.
  • You have deep experience maturing a compliance program, including hands-on experience running compliance committees, conducting risk assessments, and developing work plans, audit plans, and policies.
  • You have robust privacy experience from a compliance lens, with a strong understanding of HIPAA's practical application in a healthcare setting.
  • You are comfortable with ambiguity and energized by building in a startup or growth-stage environment. You are not afraid to roll up your sleeves to iterate, troubleshoot and adapt as we scale.
  • You are collaborative and solutions-oriented, with a track record of being a thoughtful partner, especially when navigating complex or sensitive issues.
  • You are highly organized and execution-focused, with strong project management skills, able to manage competing priorities, and move work forward independently.

Bonus Points If

  • You possess strong expertise in telehealth regulations and fee-for-service billing compliance, with experience partnering closely with Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) and Finance teams.

Why you should join our team

By joining Pomelo, you will get in on the ground floor for a fast-moving, well-funded and mission-driven startup where you will have a profound impact on the clinical team and overall business. It’s a chance to make a real difference in families’ lives. Individual pay decisions are ultimately based on a number of factors, including qualifications for the role, experience level, skillset, geography, and balancing internal equity. Given that this role is open to candidates of different skill levels, determining a salary range is challenging. A reasonable estimate of the current salary range is $185,000 – $215,000. Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Form CC-305
OMB Control Number 1250-0005
Expires 04/30/2026

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor. The law requires us to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. We have a goal of having at least 7% of our workers as people with disabilities. The law says we must measure our progress towards this goal. To do this, we must ask applicants and employees if they have a disability or have ever had one. People can become disabled, so we need to ask this question at least every five years.

Completing this form is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer is confidential. No one who makes hiring decisions will see it. Your decision to complete the form and your answer will not harm you in any way. If you want to learn more about the law or this form, visit the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP) website at www.dol.gov/ofccp.
