At Pure Storage, we are on a mission to revolutionize AI infrastructure. AI & Data Science is complex, but our goal is to build an amazing environment for the Data Scientist and Model Engineer. Pure Storage’s AI Infrastructure team is creating a breakthrough platform that abstracts away infrastructure to allow data scientists, model engineers, and AI practitioners to focus on data, math and models by rethinking how data is organized, tracked and accessed

This is not an extension of something that already exists, we are rethinking the data stack for Data Scientists and Model Engineers from ground up. We work on technology higher up in the stack than the classic storage products. What you will build is cloud native, on-prem capable, high performance and extremely scalable. 

This is a rare opportunity to join a small but high-impact team that is moving fast to rethink a problem and build a product from the ground up. We are a team with a track record at startups, building high quality products from scratch and we seek people who thrive in that environment. We have a fully functional prototype and a working demo, and our focus for 2025 is to get to first customer engagements working on production-level design and getting early customer feedback. SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...

  • Architect and develop highly distributed, performant, and scalable backend systems.
  • Design robust data models and implement efficient database schemas with a strong focus on versioning, migrations, and lifecycle management.
  • Work on large-scale AI workflows, ensuring seamless integration with existing AI/ML tooling.
  • Collaborate closely with user experience engineers to define the product vision and shape how different personas interact with the platform.
  • Drive technical excellence by mentoring junior engineers, establishing best practices, and contributing to architectural decisions.
  • Optimize system performance and reliability, ensuring that the platform scales to handle enterprise AI workloads.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...

  • 8+ years of backend engineering experience with a focus on high-scale, distributed systems.
  • Deep expertise in Python, Go, C/C++ or Rust for backend development.
  • Strong understanding of database design, indexing, schema migration, and versioning. We desire experience in PostgreSQL, MySQL, NoSQL or similar database technologies.
  • Experience working with message queues, event-driven architectures, and streaming data processing.
  • Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud-native development (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
  • Ability to work end-to-end, from system design to implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and ownership.
  • We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, California office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.

The annual base salary range is: $207,000– $312,00. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations. 

This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
