Pure Storage is seeking an IT professional with strong communications, problem-solving and technical skills to help with day to day hardware deployment and repair systems operations. Our DevOps Engineers are responsible for deploying, troubleshooting, repairing and ensuring the server fleet is operating at its maximum capacity. As a member of this dynamic team of DevOps Engineers, you will be responsible for monitoring your task queue to identify tickets that require additional assistance from your expertise.
As part of a Data Center DevOps team, you will work in a local datacenter interfacing directly with the datacenter operations team to assist in providing post hardware repair support to ensure hardware gets validated and returned back to the production fleet. As an autonomous, go-getter, you will be required to take initiative and drive leadership representing the Infrastructure and Shared Services (ISS) team in the datacenter.
SHOULD YOU ACCEPT THIS CHALLENGE...
- Day to day server administration (physical, virtual), storage administration, network config and applications support, health and performance monitoring. Ensuring quick turnaround times, as well as performance levels, availability, and security.
- Responsible for service delivery SLAs and validation at the storage, network, testing and application level. Ensuring proper infrastructure / testbed functionality with operations and internal R&D teams.
- Refine and automate commonly performed tasks to gain efficiencies and scalability using automation platforms such as Ansible, Puppet, etc.
- Document complex processes using common tools such as Visio, LucidChart (preferred), Sunbird DCTrack DCIM or similar (preferred), Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel
- Experience using ticketing systems to track issues and document changes (Jira preferred)
- Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to peers
- Deploy infrastructure manually and also via configuration management / automation platforms
- Monitor and manage infrastructure utilization and performance
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network related issues, provide quick resolution to reported problems and perform root cause analysis to analyze reason for issues and prevent future occurrences
- Communicate and coordinate infrastructure maintenance schedule and downtime to users
- Help implement infrastructure solutions that meet or exceed our internal and external customers' SLAs and expectations
- Participate in the software development process as necessary, providing operational infrastructure designs and recommendations as required
WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO BRING TO THIS ROLE...
- Strong hands on working knowledge of Linux
- Scripting is desirable in Python or Ansible programing
- Understanding of networking and storage infrastructure
- Managing your Jira ticket queue, troubleshooting hardware failure issues, applying appropriate repair steps and validating hardware to send back out to production fleet
- Identify some basic code related problems in the validation process, and create tickets for the appropriate team to implement a fix
- Communicate extensively with the datacenter operations teams working hand in hand resolving hardware issues
- Maintain and contribute technical documentation, troubleshooting manuals and run books to an internal wiki
- Continuously review, learn and understand internal services and tools that apply to our IT workflows
- Provide mentoring and training when necessary to the DC Operations team
- Familiar experience with hardware from vendors like, Cisco, Brocade, and Supermicro
- Resourcefulness and problem-solving aptitude
GOOD TO HAVE...
- Basic knowledge of Pure storage products such as Flash Array and Flash Blade
- Working knowledge of Windows administration
- Familiar with automated booting in a linux environment
- Familiarity with automation tools, such as Jenkins, Docker, etc
- Familiarity with the Google suite of tools, including Sheets, Docs, etc.
- Familiarity with ESXI/VMWare
- Computer Science, Computer Hardware Engineering education, or at least five years in the industry
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Must be detail-oriented and a well-organized self-starter
- Can be open to constructive criticism
- Ability to explain complicated hardware issues, hardware configurations and BIOS configurations
- Fantastic problem-solving skills, especially related to server hardware
- Ability to take ownership of issues that arise from various hardware and software problems and follow them to resolution
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, System Operator or Administrator or similar role
- We are primarily an in-office environment and therefore, you will be expected to work from the Santa Clara, CA office in compliance with Pure’s policies, unless you are on PTO, or work travel, or other approved leave.
The annual base salary range is: $145,000– $180,000. Salary ranges are determined based on role, level and location. For positions open to candidates in multiple geographical locations, the base salary range is reflective of the labor market across the applicable locations.
This role may be eligible for incentive pay and/or equity.
