Summer 2026 Internship - Electrical Engineering
Radiant is an El Segundo, CA-based startup building the world’s first mass-produced, portable nuclear microreactors. The company’s first reactor, Kaleidos, is a 1-megawatt failsafe microreactor that can be transported anywhere power is needed and run for up to five years without the need to refuel. Portable nuclear power with rapid deploy capability can replace similar-sized diesel generators, and provide critical asset support for hospitals, data centers, remote sites, and military bases. Radiant’s unique, practical approach to nuclear development utilizes modern software engineering to rapidly achieve safe, factory-built microreactors that leverage existing, well-qualified materials. Founded in 2020, Radiant is on track to test its first reactor next year at the Idaho National Laboratory, with initial customer deliveries beginning in 2028.
Radiant is building the next generation of clean, portable nuclear power through small modular reactors. As part of our mission to transform how energy is generated and delivered, we are seeking a motivated Electrical Engineering Intern to join our team. In this role, you’ll gain hands-on experience working alongside experienced engineers to support the design, testing, and integration of electrical systems that power our advanced reactors. This is an opportunity to apply your classroom knowledge to real-world engineering challenges while contributing to a pioneering clean energy technology.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with the design, modeling, and analysis of electrical systems and components.
- Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting of hardware and instrumentation.
- Collaborate with cross-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, software, nuclear) to ensure system reliability and safety.
- Contribute to documentation, schematics, and technical reports.
- Participate in lab and prototyping work as needed.
- Current pursuit of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Foundational knowledge of circuit design, power systems, or control systems.
- Familiarity with tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, SPICE, or CAD software is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and eagerness to learn.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
