We design and build equipment from pilot and demo scale through full production. Our customers often bring novel materials or processes, and we help them scale by building the systems—and sometimes the entire plant—around their novel technology so they can focus on their core expertise. Our breadth of projects span: Custom Hydrogen Electrolyzers, Electrolyzer and Fuel Cell test stands, fuel cell stack assembly equipment, Battery assembly systems, battery coating machines, sustainable aviation fuel pilot plant, high pressure remote test systems, SMR balance of plant, carbon capture plants, containerized solutions for point of use energy or storage (commercial and military applications), and more.
Who we are looking for
We are in search of a driven and results-focused individual to join our business development team. You will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and securing new business opportunities for the design, engineering, and fabrication of custom modular or skid based process systems in the energy market. This role requires a strong understanding of multiple market segments and demonstrated history of selling complex custom processing systems and equipment into these markets. In many instances, these are first of a kind (FOAK) systems. The targeted segments include: Hydrogen, Battery, Alternative Fuels, Nuclear, and Carbon Capture.
This is a great opportunity for an impactful role, one in which you will enjoy considerable autonomy and variety. The Director of Business Development is an integral part of the growing team responsible for new business development and client relationship management. You will work closely with technical experts during the entire business development process from identifying target clients to securing contracts for engineering development and/or manufacturing and nurturing ongoing relationships with existing clients.
The position requires a highly motivated, “roll-up your sleeves” professional fluent in engineering, materials, manufacturing, and client relations. This is a very hands-on role requiring an individual that is comfortable developing strategy, prospecting and developing relationships, and progressing deals through to closure.

- Develop and execute a strategic business development plan focused on energy (Hydrogen, Battery, Alternative Fuels, Nuclear, Carbon Capture)
- Identify, qualify, and secure new project opportunities in process design, automation, custom equipment, and turnkey systems. Leverage various channels, including networking events, industry conferences, online platforms, and referrals, to generate leads and build a strong pipeline of potential clients.
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key decision-makers and key business partners at client organizations. Understand their goals, needs, and strategic objectives to position our contract manufacturing solutions effectively.
- Conduct thorough needs analysis and understand the technical requirements of clients' complex systems. Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, production, and project management, to develop tailored solutions that address clients' specific needs.
- Prepare and present compelling proposals and presentations to prospective clients, highlighting the value proposition, technical capabilities, and competitive advantages of our engineering and contract manufacturing services. Engage in discussions to establish terms and finalize agreements for new contracts.
- Stay updated on industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies related to sophisticated system manufacturing. Leverage market insights to identify new business opportunities and position our company as a leader in the contract manufacturing space.
- Partner closely with internal teams, including engineering, production, quality control, and project management, to ensure client satisfaction. Incorporate feedback from clients to improve internal processes and service offerings.
- Work closely with site and corporate marketing teams to promote awareness of our capabilities and experience. Support content development, message creation, and presentation materials. Provide mentorship and feedback on industry trends, client activity, and competitor tracking. Lead and support campaigns to drive messaging and business.
- Harness Customer Relationship Management tools to develop and maintain complete and accurate information regarding your sales pipeline. Provide forecast information and work with the management team to ensure that business opportunities meet financial criteria.
What you bring to the team
- Minimum of 8 years of proven experience in business development or technical sales, preferably in custom capital equipment, processing equipment and manufacturing systems for the energy market.
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, chemistry, or physics, coupled with relevant work experience. A Master of Business Administration is preferred.
- Deep understanding of process and test equipment/systems used in the energy space.
- Established history of enhancing business growth, meeting sales goals, and finalizing complex transactions with significant capital equipment involvement deals. Proficient in consultative selling, relationship building, and negotiation techniques.
- Well-established professional network within relevant industries.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate intricate technical concepts in a clear and concise manner. Strong presentation and proposal development capabilities.
- Ability to analyze market trends, identify business opportunities, and develop effective strategies to achieve revenue growth targets. A track record of progressive and creative strategies to maintain a lead over competitors.
- Collaborative and effective in multi-functional team environments. Ability to engage internal partners and foster strong relationships to ensure successful sales processes.
- Work across energy segments with a diverse set of projects and technology maturity.
Location Requirements
The preferred location for this role is centered in or near a region that is highly active and innovative in the targeted segments; including TX (Houston), MA, NY, NC (RTP) . Engineering and manufacturing for the products and services provided by Re:Build will be primarily based out of the Re:Build Optimation facility in the Rochester, NY region. Frequent travel to Rochester will be required.
Compensation
Annual salary for this position is expected to be between $150,000 to $170,000, plus participation in our annual bonus plan and long term incentive plan..
