Who we are looking for
Are you experienced in practical leadership and operational management within a machine shop? Have you worked as a Value Stream Manager setting up and guiding a high-production facility from its inception? You will take the lead as the senior operational executive accountable for overall outcomes, profitability, and ongoing advancement of the Large Format Machining (LFM) Value Stream. Your duties involve handling every aspect of the Value Stream and aligning production, engineering, and supply chain operations. Main objectives include cutting waste, optimizing flow, and maintaining safety, quality, and on-time delivery.
You’ll also build and direct operational strategies to support rapid volume growth and encourage continuous improvement throughout the plant. Success in this role requires a hands-on leadership style, extensive knowledge of machining processes, methods, equipment, and tools, and proficiency in Lean manufacturing tools and methodologies.
This distinguished opportunity allows you to play a vital role by taking initiative and solving complex issues in a high-growth, collaborative environment. The Manager of the Large Format Machining Value Stream directs production supervisors, manufacturing engineers, quality engineers, technicians, and the required resources to fulfill customer needs. The VSM also works closely with sourcing, engineering, quality, and Lean teams.
What you get to do
- Lead the ongoing development and implementation of the existing strategic plan to build and grow a Large Scale Machine (LFM) manufacturing facility. Ensure alignment with corporate objectives and industry standard processes. At the same time, run daily operations such as production, maintenance, quality, and logistics. Guarantee timely delivery to customers.
- Ensure a zero-incident culture by implementing safety protocols, regulatory requirements (OSHA, FDA, etc.), and environmental compliance. Ensure all manufacturing processes align with industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies.
- Recruit, hire, develop, and mentor a high-performing manufacturing team, including production, quality, supply chain, and engineering personnel to build a high-performing, accountable culture.
- Champion Lean principles (Value Stream Analysis, Rapid Improvement Events (RIE), SMED, 5S, etc.) to eliminate non-value-added activities and reduce waste.
- Monitor and improve important metrics such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), productivity, scrap, and labor efficiency. Use Basic Problem Solving and Root Cause Countermeasure as appropriate to address opportunities.
- Be responsible for the value stream's budget and P&L, implementing cost-reduction strategies and running labor, overhead, and operating expenses. Develop and lead operational budgets, capital expenditures, and cost control measures to achieve financial targets.
- Partner with Sourcing / Supply Chain, Technical, Quality, and the Commercial teams to advance production scheduling, material availability, process flow and to align manufacturing capabilities with market demands and product innovations.
- Build and implement advanced manufacturing processes, automation strategies, and quality control systems to ensure high-yield, cost-efficient production.
- Stay at the forefront of emerging machining technologies and manufacturing advancements, positioning the organization as an industry leader.
What you bring to the Team
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in machine shop management, with a strong preference for Large Scale Machining.
- At least 5 years holding a leadership role in a sophisticated manufacturing environment.
- Experience with facility startup, new product introduction, and production scale-up.
- Solid understanding of machining manufacturing.
- Expertise in automation, Industry 4.0, and smart manufacturing technologies.
- Strong leadership, team-building, and talent development skills.
- Outstanding problem-solving abilities and critical thinking.
