Value Stream Leader - Commercial Space

Rock Hill, SC

About Re:Build

At Re:Build, our mission is to ensure the next generation of important products are made, at scale, in America. We are laying the foundation for a better future for our customers, employees, and communities by revitalizing America's manufacturing base and creating meaningful jobs across the country, including in historically deindustrialized regions.

We operate an advanced, end-to-end manufacturing platform that partners with industrial companies and innovators to take products from first concept to full-scale production in critical verticals including aerospace and defense, electrification, medical, energy and environment, and robotics and automation.

The way we operate is as important as the work we do. It's guided by The Re:Build Way, 16 principles that shape how we collaborate with each other, partner with our customers and vendors, and contribute to the communities where we operate. (link to The Re:Build Way principles)

Who we are looking for

We're seeking a transformational operations leader who combines end-to-end accountability with lean thinking and a passion for leveraging advanced technology to revolutionize manufacturing processes. You're someone with 5–7 years of progressive manufacturing operations experience who knows how to own order flow from receipt through shipment, drive daily execution across multiple functions, and resolve friction in real time rather than waiting for someone else to fix it. Beyond managing the day-to-day, you're a change agent who sees opportunities to apply AI, automation, and digital tools to fundamentally improve how work flows through the value stream.

You bring a blend of decisiveness and partnership—comfortable leading without full authority, coordinating peer-to-peer with other value stream leaders, and treating escalations as the exception rather than the rule. What sets you apart is your mindset: you're not just executing lean principles, you're actively transforming operations by challenging conventional manufacturing approaches and piloting emerging technologies that deliver measurable improvements in quality, velocity, and cost. If you're energized by the challenge of commercial space and aerospace & defense manufacturing—where delivery performance is program-critical and quality standards are non-negotiable—and you're ready to lead both people and process innovation using the full toolkit of modern lean and digital manufacturing, this is the opportunity for you.

What you get to do!

  • Own the commercial space value stream end-to-end from customer order receipt through production execution to shipment and delivery confirmation
  • Directly lead and develop a production team of approximately 40 technicians responsible for aerospace & defense composite manufacturing
  • Champion lean transformation by owning the value stream's VSA roadmap, sponsoring A3 problem-solving efforts, and driving daily continuous improvement through MDI tailored to commercial space aerospace & defense requirements
  • Lead the adoption and integration of AI, automation, and advanced manufacturing technologies to revolutionize processes—identifying opportunities for digital work instructions, predictive analytics, machine learning for quality prediction, and other innovations that accelerate cycle time and reduce variation
  • Coordinate daily execution with project planning, engineering, quality, and shipping/logistics teams through dotted-line authority, driving alignment without direct reporting relationships
  • Conduct daily end-to-end order status reviews across planning, production, and shipping; resolve cross-functional blockers same-day rather than waiting for weekly meetings
  • Perform daily floor walks covering safety, production, quality, and shipping/dock issues tied to your value stream, using data and visual management to identify improvement opportunities
  • Execute capacity plans for shared machines and headcount across value streams, resolving same-day conflicts (equipment down, urgent expedites) directly with peer Value Stream Leaders
  • Participate in weekly joint capacity planning sessions for shared resources and ensure clear supervisory accountability in shared cells
  • Lead weekly reviews with project planning on at-risk jobs and with shipping/logistics on outbound commitments
  • Participate in monthly customer on-time delivery, cycle time, cost of poor quality, and throughput reviews with the Plant Manager
  • Embed compliance and traceability practices specific to commercial space production while continuously challenging and simplifying processes through lean and technology enablement

What you bring to the team –

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5 to 7 years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, production leadership, or value stream management
  • Demonstrated experience owning end-to-end order flow (order-to-ship) in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience leading cross-functional coordination without direct reporting authority (dotted-line leadership)
  • Proven track record as a lean thinker and transformational leader, including leading value stream transformations, kaizen events, or process redesigns that delivered step-change improvements rather than incremental gains
  • Experience championing or piloting advanced technologies in manufacturing environments, such as AI/ML applications, IIoT/sensor integration, digital twin, automated data collection, predictive maintenance, or advanced analytics platforms
  • Demonstrated ability to identify, evaluate, and implement technology solutions that fundamentally change how manufacturing work is performed, measured, and improved
  • Safety leadership mindset: champions safe work environments by modeling and enforcing standards, proactively identifying hazards, and embedding safety as the first priority
  • Ownership approach that treats escalations as the exception and resolves cross-functional friction directly within the stream
  • Collaborative yet decisive leadership style: able to work day-to-day with functional leads without direct authority while still driving alignment and results
  • Data-driven problem-solving: tracks OTD, cycle time, OEE/throughput, COPQ, and jobs-at-risk to catch problems early
  • Peer coordination skills: negotiates and resolves shared-capacity conflicts directly with other Value Stream Leaders
  • Working knowledge of lean tools relevant to composite part flow (flow cells, Kanban/pull, 5S, visual management)
  • Familiarity with ERP/MES platforms (Infor Syteline or similar) and CAD/PLM systems (SolidWorks, PDM)
  • Primarily on-site role with flexibility to respond to daily floor issues and same-day conflicts as they arise

Preferred

  • Experience in commercial space, aerospace and defense, or related regulated/high-precision manufacturing
  • Experience with P&L responsibility for programs of $10MM+ in annual revenue
