Location: Rhombus Power Headquarters, Palo Alto, CA (Minimum 4 days/week onsite required)

Rhombus is a fast-moving, execution-focused AI company seeking like-minded, mission-oriented colleagues that must be resourceful, creative, and eager to take full ownership of complex financial matters. 

This role will interface daily with Rhombus’s CEO and executive leadership team, as well as other functional leads; You must be ready for a fast-paced, ‘roll-up your sleeves’ role.

Rhombus seeks a Controller with strong experience in managing full-cycle accounting and financial responsibilities with a strong preference for those with proven performance on FAR-compliant and GAAP-based managerial accounting. In this role you’ll be responsible for Rhombus’ core accounting functions—AP/AR, payroll, reconciliations, and ledger management—while ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Prepares corporate financial statements in a timely fashion. Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. 
  • Responsible for managing full-cycle accounting for both Government (compliant with FAR) and Managerial accounting/reporting in compliance with GAAP.
  • Responsible for end-to-end operations of the Accounting department, which includes accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll. 
  • Regularly presents relevant financial analysis, reports, metrics, and other information to CEO and executive management team in concise and digestible formats. 
  • Responsible for the various ledgers including cash disbursements, cash receipts, accounts payable, month-end payroll summary, accounts receivable summary, and journal entries to adjust the general ledger. 
  • Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management. 
  • Supervise accounting personnel, providing guidance and support in day-to-day accounting tasks.
  • Collaborate closely with operations and product teams to ensure accurate cost tracking and financial planning.
  • Act as the point of contact for all financial and accounting matters with banks, legal offices, and local, state, and federal governments.
  • Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned. 

What we’re looking for

  • Finance and Accounting professional with minimum 10 years experience, strong preference for those with prior accounting experience with Department of Defense (DoD) contracts and/or SaaS companies. 
  • Minimum Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance, with 10 years of experience; OR a relevant Masters degree with five years of experience. 
  • Proven success working directly with fast-moving company leadership in smaller, agile, mission-focused organizations is critical!
  •  Ability to create and manage corporate budgets.
  • Experience navigating U.S. government websites, such as WAWF.
  • Experience with DCAA /DCMA, external financial auditors and knowledge of CAS/FAR/Business systems; experience with FAR, DCAA, DCMA regulations and compliance.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills. We need you to “manage-up” and “manage-down” and always be flexible and adaptive to executive needs.  
  • Experience with inter-company transactions, particularly with subsidiary companies.
  • Experience consolidating financials with an international subsidiary.
  • Ability to provide accounting services as detailed in agreements. 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, as well as budget creation and analysis software. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of budgetary and accounting principles, practices, and policies.
  • Broad, in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) concepts.
  • Proficiency in all contract types, including transactions, FAR-based contracts and agreements ranging from from low dollar to high dollar (>$100M).
  • Excellent organizational skills; capable of maintaining both broad and intricate knowledge of special accounting and financial analysis projects and enabling outcomes with minimal direction.
  • Ability to cultivate strong, ongoing relationships with internal and external customers. 

What we require

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with the ability to obtain a U.S. secret clearance.
  • Willing to work onsite in our Palo Alto, CA HQ at a cadence of 4-5 days/week. 

Salary

  • This position has a salary range of $170K to $190K. Final salary will be determined based on experience and qualifications.
  • This position is eligible for an annual performance bonus, alongside other company perks and benefits.
