As the 1st Data Engineer at RunPod, you'll create and implement scalable data solutions to support the company's analytics and decision-making processes. You'll select the technologies that will underpin our data infrastructure, working closely with teams across engineering, analytics, and sales. Your main tasks include developing data pipelines, ensuring SOC2 compliance, and mentoring team members. This role demands a proactive approach, strong communication skills, and a passion for driving significant change in a dynamic startup environment.

Position: Senior Data Engineer - Full Time - Remote / San Francisco, CA

Reports to: Head of Data

Salary Range: $160,000 - $180,000

Job Summary:

As the foundational Data Engineer, you will be tasked with designing and implementing robust data solutions that support scalable analytics and data-driven decision-making across the company. You will be instrumental in choosing the tools and technologies that will form the backbone of our data capabilities. This role requires a proactive person motivated to build an efficient, scalable, and secure data ecosystem. You will collaborate with and have solid cross-functional partnerships with all teams, from Engineering to Analytics to Sales. We use tools like FiveTran and Cockroach to orchestrate data pipelines and define workflows between Planetscale, Tinybird, and Snowflake. 

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of robust data pipelines to ingest, aggregate, and index diverse data sources into our organization's data warehouse.
  • Spearhead the development of a cutting-edge data warehousing platform, ensuring it meets SOC2 security and compliance requirements.
  • Collaborate closely with data analytics to ensure the data platform effectively supports reporting and analyzing key business metrics.
  • Partner with the data science and machine learning team to build scalable capabilities for insight generation and leveraging LLMs.
  • Mentor and coach engineers on the data team, fostering a culture of data excellence and innovation throughout the organization.

 

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience architecting and implementing large-scale enterprise data solutions.
  • 2+ years of proficient experience in modern data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, and Redshift, with a strong understanding of their architectural principles.
  • 2+ years of demonstrated expertise in designing and optimizing high-volume, real-time, and batch ETL pipelines.
  • 1+ years of experience in coaching and mentoring team members to foster professional growth and development, focusing on cultivating a growth mindset through constructive feedback and support.
  • Proven track record of thriving in startup environments, with a proactive attitude and a passion for driving impactful change. See yourself as a partner with the business with the shared goal of moving the business forward
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with a demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • You collaborate seamlessly with functional partners to connect the dots across business needs and independently drive projects forward. Your dedicated partnerships are with Backend Engineers, Analytics, Business Intelligence, Security, and Machine Learning practitioners.
  • Advanced degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field or relevant industry industry experience

 

Compensation Package:

RunPod's compensation package comprises salary, equity, and benefits. We are committed to pay fairness and aim for these three elements to be highly competitive with market rates. Equity will be a component of total compensation in addition to this position's salary. The exact amount will be communicated at the time of offer issuance.
