ABOUT THE ROLE

We’re looking for a Cloud Engineer to join our Flo Platform Team to assist with the design, implementation, and management of our cloud-based infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and reliability across our estate. This is a pivotal role, providing the opportunity to work on cutting-edge data-intensive environments and influence the future of cloud strategies.
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of cloud best practices and expertise in at least one major cloud provider (AWS or Azure), with multi-cloud experience being a significant advantage. You'll play a critical role in building scalable infrastructure, applying industry standards, and ensuring compliance with modern cloud and operational strategies.

As a Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for: 

Primary Engineering Tasks

• Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Develop, manage, and deploy infrastructure using Terraform and Terragrunt or similar, adhering to modular IaC design principles. Implement version-controlled IaC pipelines following industry best practices.
• Cloud Architecture: Design and deploy secure, scalable, and highly available cloud environments. Implement multi-region/multi-AZ architectures for redundancy and disaster recovery. Explore and integrate emerging cloud technologies to improve performance, scalability, and security.
• Operational Excellence: Automate infrastructure provisioning, monitoring, and maintenance tasks. Establish robust monitoring and observability. Conduct performance tuning and cost optimization (e.g., rightsizing instances, autoscaling).
• Incident Management and Troubleshooting: Participate in on-call rotations and respond to incidents to ensure minimal downtime. Perform root cause analysis and implement long-term solutions to prevent recurring issues. Maintain and periodically test disaster recovery plans.

Additional Responsibilities

• Service Desk and Operations: Manage service desk operations, prioritizing and routing support tickets effectively while ensuring timely resolution. Enforce SLAs for ticket response and resolution, aligned with business needs. Maintain and update knowledge bases and runbooks for troubleshooting common issues and onboarding new team members.
• Security and Compliance: Apply security standards, such as CIS Benchmarks, ISO 27001, and NIST, to cloud environments. Configure and manage IAM roles, policies, and least-privilege access models. Implement encryption for data in transit and at rest, ensuring compliance with regulations like GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
• Collaboration and Innovation: Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate cloud solutions into the application lifecycle. Advocate for cloud adoption and mentor team members on cloud best practices. Evaluate and adopt emerging cloud technologies to drive innovation.

 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

• Core Expertise:
  • Hands-on experience with IaC tools like Terraform and Terragrunt, including module creation, state management, and root folder structure.
  • Proficiency in one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure), with preference for multi-cloud experience.
• Technical Skills:
  • Strong understanding of Well-Architected Frameworks (AWS WAF, Azure CAF, GCP WAF).
  • Familiarity with cloud-native services, including serverless, containers, and managed databases
  • Experience in data-intensive/OLAP architectures.
  • Proficiency in cost management practices, including tagging strategies and granular cost breakdowns.
• DevOps and Automation
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash) for automation.
• Security and Compliance
  • Understanding of compliance frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, and SOC 2.
  • Familiarity with incident response frameworks such as ITIL or SRE principles.
• Collaboration and self-directed remote work
  • Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication abilities required for effective remote work
  • Ability to mentor and support other team members in improving skills adopting good practices.

 

EDUCATION

This role is ideal for someone with at least 3-5 years of experience in cloud engineering or a related field, with demonstrated expertise in cloud architecture, security, and operational excellence. Multi-cloud exposure and data-intensive environment experience are significant differentiators.

• A strong foundation in a relevant technical field (e.g., computer science, engineering, or related disciplines) is expected.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Architect, or Terraform Associate) will enhance a candidate's profile.
