The Role

We are seeking a highly qualified Sector Data Analyst Summer Intern to join our team. This team is responsible for helping portfolio managers use real world data as a part of their investment process, which means processing and generating forecasts from complex alternative datasets.   

What You’ll Do 

As a Sector Data Analyst Summer Intern, you’ll spend ten weeks with the Schonfeld Sector Data team, focusing on a quantitative research project related to the use of real-world data in the investment process. The research project will be empirical in nature and will involve the use of advanced quantitative techniques and market intuition.

The Sector Data Analyst Intern will work alongside data scientists and engineers to ingest new data sources, develop a deep understanding of specific datasets, and use the data to better understand the companies and economies we invest in.

What You’ll Bring

What you need:

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in a quantitative or technical field such as mathematics, physics, engineering, economics, or finance (ideally with one year left in your academic program)
  • Knowledge of, and coursework in, linear algebra, statistics, and data science
  • Proficient programming ability in Python and familiarity with packages like pandas
  • Knowledge of SQL and / or spark is a plus
  • Interest in learning about hedge fund strategies and finance

Our Internship

The Schonfeld summer internship provides students with a unique opportunity to experience Schonfeld, our work, our people, and our culture. Interns will typically join a small team and will spend 10 weeks at Schonfeld from June - August.

Each summer intern will work on a tailored project that will provide them with real world experience.  We provide all interns with a dedicated mentor and manager to help them navigate the summer successfully. Interns will also participate in our learning program, the Sapphire: Summer Session, which aims to provide tangible skills training and education on various functions across the firm and in the workplace. Along with the hands-on guidance and support from managers and mentors, interns will participate in weekly networking events, engage with our Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Alliance, attend panel discussions, and have many opportunities to get to know Schonfeld’s core values in practice.

The annual base pay for this role is expected to be between $135,000-$150,000 which will be prorated based on internship start and end date. The expected base pay range is based on information at the time this post was generated. Actual compensation for the successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of factors such as skills, qualifications and experience and level of education.
