Trading Assistant

The Role

We are seeking a Trading Assistant to join our front-office trading team at Schonfeld in our Hong Kong office. You will work directly with traders and portfolio managers, serving as a critical link between the trading desk, portfolio finance, operations, and compliance teams. This role requires someone who can translate data into actionable market insights, leverage technology to streamline workflows, and thrive in a fast-paced trading environment.

What you'll do

  • Gather and provide market color to support trading decisions and portfolio management
  • Provide ad-hoc analytical support to traders and Portfolio Managers across various requests
  • Build and maintain data tools, dashboards, and automated workflows - leverage Python, AI, and reporting platforms to extract insights, identify patterns and anomalies, and tell stories from trading data
  • Track and respond to time-sensitive events - both scheduled (corporate actions) and reactive (broker deadlines, market-driven requirements)
  • Assist with trade bookings and trade lifecycle coordination with middle-office teams
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Portfolio Finance, Operations, and Compliance teams on daily trading activities

What you need

Required:

  • 0-3 years of experience - open to strong new and/or recent graduates from other functions looking to transition into trading
  • Python programming skills for data analysis, automation, and tool development
  • Advanced Excel and data handling capabilities - expert-level manipulation, analysis, and visualization
  • Experience with dashboard and reporting tools (Tableau, Power BI, or similar platforms)
  • Ability to incorporate AI into routine workflows - using AI models for analysis, automation, fact-finding, and operational efficiency
  • Strong analytical skills - ability to derive context, insights, and narratives from complex datasets
  • Exceptional attention to detail - critical for trade accuracy and data integrity
  • Excellent communication skills - ability to interact effectively with front-office traders, PMs, and middle-office teams
  • Self-starter with ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment

Preferred:

  • Knowledge of hedge fund equity operations and trade lifecycle processes
  • Interest in financial markets and market microstructure
  • Cross-asset, multi-product knowledge across APAC markets
