New

2027 PhD Centralized Research Intern

New York, New York, United States

The Role

We’re seeking a highly motivated PhD student in economics to join our Central Research team in the Discretionary Macro and Fixed Income Division in New York. You’ll work on live research questions, not academic exercises, and your output will feed directly into portfolio managers’ investment processes. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and wants to deepen their understanding of macro markets.

What You’ll Do

As part of a close-knit team, you’ll build tools and analyze large datasets to generate actionable macroeconomic insights for portfolio managers. Your work may include:

  • Building quantitative models covering growth, inflation, labor markets, and monetary and fiscal policy across developed and emerging markets
  • Conducting empirical research on macro themes such as policy transmission, term premia, and cross-country spillovers
  • Developing and maintaining data and analytical tools that the broader research team can use
  • Communicating findings clearly to researchers and portfolio managers, so your work informs live investment decisions

What You’ll Bring

  • Currently pursuing a PhD in Economics, Financial Economics, or a related quantitative field
  • Prior research assistantship, internship, or work experience in economics, finance, or policy is a plus but not required
  • Strong grounding in macroeconomic theory and applied econometrics (time series, panel data, causal inference)
  • Proficient in at least one statistical/programming language (Python, R, MATLAB)
  • A genuine interest in financial markets and how macro research connects to investment decisions
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and take ownership of responsibilities
