Engineering Manager - LiveOps Automation

Scopely is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our LiveOps Automation team within our Midcore division in Spain on a remote basis.

The LiveOps Automation team are responsible for building a sophisticated suite of LiveOps tools driven by Machine Learning (ML) for enhancing player experience within Midcore games. This initiative will implicitly change how Midcore manages its games in perpetuity. 

We are seeking a creative and highly motivated Engineering Manager with ML expertise to join Scopely’s LiveOps Automation team. This role will focus on leading the ML Engineers team, which works to unleash ML capabilities for LiveOps teams on different gaming platforms.

What You Will Do

As an Engineering Manager, your day-to-day responsibilities will involve team management with technical leadership. You will contribute to the team’s technical direction and planning while leading the design, development, and research of ML systems, models, and workflows. You’ll be expected to collaborate closely with stakeholders to gather requirements, align on goals, and ensure the timely delivery of ML-driven features. In addition, you will play a key role in shaping and refining the vision for ML products within the team, managing project priorities, promoting engineering best practices, and providing mentorship and support to team members. You’ll help create an environment of psychological safety, guiding performance and growth conversations while fostering a strong culture of collaboration and accountability.

  • Lead and mentor a team of Machine Learning Engineers / Data Scientists, providing guidance on technical and professional growth. 
  • Contribute to technical plans, and discuss areas of opportunity and requirements with stakeholders.
  • Collaborate on defining the team’s roadmap and vision for ML within the Mid-Core division.
  • Validate data science prototypes with stakeholders and transform them into production-usable ML models.
  • Work with other developers to implement tools that empower our Live Operators and Game Design teams to create new and exciting game experiences. This role requires hands-on work.
  • Building and maintaining cloud-native infrastructure for hyperscale ML models training and serving.
  • LiveOps Automation toolsuite support & troubleshooting.

What We're Looking For

  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills 
  • A passion for solving complex problems and translating business needs into robust solutions 
  • Strong leadership skills with a track record of guiding and growing engineering teams. 
  • A deep understanding of ML technologies development and best practices.
  • Experience delivering production quality, highly performant ML platforms at scale.
  • Experience in at least one of the following: Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Azure SQL Data Warehouse.
  • Very strong coding ability, and experience in development in at least one mainstream programming language (Python, Java, C++, etc.).
  • Experience with at least one major public cloud provider (AWS / Azure / GCP).
  • You’re a great tech communicator who can share knowledge with non-technical people.
  • You have worked with cross-functional teams in large organizations.
  • You desire to seek out and take on user feedback to drive world-class application development.
  • You love games!

Bonus Points

  • Experience building, managing, and maintaining MLOps platforms.
  • Experience building recommendation systems.
  • Free-to-play games product knowledge
