Lead Tools Engineer
What You Will Do
As the Lead Tools Engineer, you will oversee a multidisciplinary team composed of Unity Developers and Python/Web Developers, ensuring that internal toolchains meet production needs, scale appropriately, and are tightly integrated into our workflows. Tools will be developed either within Unity or through a proprietary web-based panel (developed in Python).
This is a critical leadership role requiring strong technical expertise, excellent communication, team management skills, and a passion for empowering creators.
- Own the internal tools development pipeline from planning to deployment
- Collaborate closely with Product Managers, Game Designers, Backend Engineers, and Frontend Engineers to gather requirements and define the roadmap for content creation tools
- Lead and mentor a team of Unity developers and Python developers, ensuring high engineering standards and fostering professional growth
- Design and implement tools within/in the Unity Engine (custom inspectors, asset pipelines, level editors, etc.) and/or through proprietary web-based panels (Python backend and web frontend)
- Manage priorities across multiple tool initiatives, ensuring alignment with game production schedules and content milestones
- Proactively identify workflow bottlenecks and propose tool improvements to enhance productivity
- Ensure quality and scalability, performing code reviews and technical design reviews
- Ensure a strong user experience philosophy for the internal tools to build
What We're Looking For
- Professional experience in tools development or similar roles in the game industry or software development
- Professional experience in a leadership or team management position
- Familiarity with Unity and Unity Editor Scripting, C#
- Familiarity with Python for web backend development
- Familiarity with Frontend Web Development (basic HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and integration with Python backends
- Experience working closely with non-technical stakeholders (product teams, designers, artists)
- Deep understanding of content pipelines and asset workflows
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills
- Comfortable discussing complex technical concepts with non-technical team members and collaborating with diverse teams
- Strong sense of ownership and responsibility
- Ability to work across multiple codebases and platforms
- Passion for building intuitive, empowering tools that elevate creative teams
Nice to have
- Full-stack development experience across Unity and Web technologies.
- Familiarity with REST APIs, authentication systems.
- Familiarity with relational databases (MySQL/Postgres) and caching solutions (Redis).
- Familiarity with cloud services (AWS preferred) for tool deployment.
