What you’ll do

Become part of an iconic brand that is set to revolutionize the electric pick-up truck & rugged SUV marketplace.

The Manager of Indirect Purchasing Investment is responsible for sourcing and management of all contracts with external providers of services to Scout Motors’ Indirect Purchasing teams related to infrastructure investments (construction & capital equipment), including an annual procurement budget of approximately $1 billion.  The role oversees the Investment purchasing team members in order to develop strategies and policies related to the procurement of goods and services. The candidate must be familiar with the business concepts, practices, procedures and goals of each of the business areas.  The role relies extensively on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Leads and directs the work of others. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected.

As a Manager, Indirect Purchasing Infrastructure, this role responsible for leading the purchase of indirect services and materials and will:

  • Lead a team in developing and executing compliant purchasing strategies in cooperation with Scout business units to maximize negotiated outcomes in areas of construction, M&E, building and equipment maintenance and other non-production requirements.
  • Work hand-in-hand with the Scout team to identify the right suppliers in areas of construction and machinery and equipment, including participating in pre-souring audits to confirm acceptability of new suppliers
  • Act as program manager during the pre-production phase, ensuring that all industrialization at suppliers achieve the project requirements in terms of timing, cost, and quality
  • Evaluate and apply technical changes as requested, ensuring that cost, quality and delivery objectives are met
  • Lead cross-functional evaluation of suppliers’ preparedness for mass-production, together with Scout engineers and construction teams
  • Develop specifications, bid terms and contractual language for competitive bid processes according to the Scout purchasing standards.
  • Ensure documentation of sourcing activities and decisions via Scout’s internal purchasing system.
  • Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
  • Responsibility to ensure business continuity by purchasing goods and services at the best possible quality, price and timeliness.
  • Review and approve buyer sourcing projects, either for final approval or for presentation to corporate sourcing committees as required.
  • Review and approve Purchase Orders and Contracts according to Scout policies and procedures.
  • Build team environment in an effort to achieve goals and objectives as set forth by Scout Motors, Inc.
  • Evaluate and assess individual buyer performance as well as vendor performance
  • Establish and maintain relationships with Business Units and suppliers to aid in determining the most appropriate and cost efficient solutions based on business needs

Location & Travel Expectations: The responsibilities of this role require attendance at in-person meetings and events regularly. This role will be based out of the Scout Motors location in Columbia, SC. Applicants should expect that the role will require the ability to convene with Scout colleagues in person and travel to participate in events on behalf of the company from time to time.

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in business or other relevant field of study.
  • 10+ years in purchasing with experience developing and executing construction & automotive production (machinery and equipment) procurement category strategies
  • 5+ years of experience developing and leading high-performing teams.
  • 5+ years of industry related experience.
  • A passion for leadership and nurturing team development
  • A reputation for developing and nurturing excellent stakeholder and partner supplier relationships
  • Experience with managing supplier performance
  • Thorough knowledge of automotive, manufacturing or related industries
  • Ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization
  • Proactivity, initiative and the ability to work across multiple workstreams
  • A passion for creating something new
  • Ability to find creative solutions to complex problems

Pay Transparency

This is a full-time, exempt position eligible to receive a base salary and to participate in an annual performance bonus program. Final salary offered will be determined based on factors including but not limited to the candidate's skills and experience. The annual performance bonus program is preset and not candidate dependent.

Initial base salary range = $130,000-$155,000

Internal leveling code: M8
