Area Director of Facilities Management

Grand Cayman

Senior leader in Facilities Management for two luxury and lifestyle properties, responsible for Engineering, Landscaping, and Loss Prevention.  Responsibilities include maintaining all equipment, systems and building components including but not limited to; mechanical and electrical systems, pumps, HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, locks, furniture, paint, wall coverings, tile and other equipment normally maintained and performed by hotel Maintenance Engineers, including pool maintenance and landscaping.   Additional responsibilities include management and decision-making authority for day-to-day operations and oversight of the Loss Prevention Department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operates, repairs and maintains all operating equipment, including but not limited to; all pumps, motors, boilers, chillers, electrical systems, refrigeration systems and equipment.
  • Paints all surface and equipment, makes minor wall covering repairs and minor furniture touch-ups.
  • Operates, repairs and maintains all hotel lighting and related equipment systems, all hotel appliances and equipment and physical plant, all guest room furnishings, equipment and physical plant.
  • Replaces light bulbs, fixtures, televisions, radios, lock and key systems.
  • Work with other departments when needed to complete property projects such as housekeeping or front office.
  • Performs minor construction work.
  • Performs necessary inspections and repairs (as required & designated) to kitchen and restaurant equipment and furnishings.
  • Maintain par stocks of essential parts and associated materials and products used for operating, repairing, and maintaining the hotel. Notifies supervisor when parts are needed by using the proper requisition system or want list as appropriate, including purchasing.
  • Maintain accurate logs of equipment tests (such as fire alarm systems, emergency lighting, fire extinguishers, etc.) repair and preventative maintenance logs, monthly reports, daily walk reports, meter readings, etc.
  • Any other related duties as assigned by the General Manager or the Corporate Director of Engineering.
  • Responsible for ensuring that contacts with project contractors, vendors and salespeople are conducted professionally, and that they conduct themselves in accordance with Kimpton Group standards.
  • Develop and maintain a proactive loss prevention program designed to ensure a safe and secure environment for hotel guests and employees.
  • Conduct hotel walkthroughs to monitor safety and security.
  • Enforce OSHA compliance and lead safety initiatives and emergency preparedness.
  • Investigate incidents including accidents, thefts, and property loss; maintain investigation documentation.
  • Manage hotel-wide programs such as key audits, fire drills, CPR training, and lost-and-found.
  • Maintain safety records and distribute relevant reports.
  • Lead safety committee meetings and participate in hotel-wide meetings.
  • Ensure clear communication across departments regarding safety and operational updates.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Maintain staff through recruiting and hiring, and training (both technical and safety items).
  • Conduct performance evaluations, and administer disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Prepare scheduling, maintain day-to-day documentation and verify payroll for team members.
  • Hold monthly departmental meetings.
  • Provide problem solving solutions.
  • Maintain open and productive relationship with People & Culture representative.
  • Attend property meetings.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE WE’RE SEEKING:

  •  A Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or similar is required.
  • Alternatively, a Bachelor Degree in Business with Engineering trade experience required.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of hotel maintenance/engineering experience
  • Minimum of 2+ years as a Director of Engineering in luxury hotels
  • High-rise Fire Safety, CFC, and chemical testing certifications.
  • Proficient in electrical, HVAC, plumbing, locksmith, refrigeration, welding, boiler maintenance, chillers, and carpentry with a solid electrical and mechanical aptitude.
  • Maintain accurate readings and logs.
  • Be able to read blueprints and define areas quickly.
  • Be proficient in MS Office and other basic platforms.
  • Ability to lead a very diverse team and make reasonable decisions.
