As a Software Development Engineer III at ShipBob, you will be responsible for developing production-ready software in close collaboration with your team, Product Owners, and your Engineering Manager.
On the Transportation team, you will serve as a key senior engineer — accelerating the delivery of scalable, resilient, and merchant-impacting systems. - Takes initiative to identify and solve important problems, coordinating with others on cross-cutting technical issues.
- Sets direction at the project/service level and consistently influences decision-making at the Pillar level.
- Identifies and proactively tackles technical debt before it grows into debt that requires significant up-front work to resolve.
- Makes others better through code reviews, thorough documentation, technical guidance, and mentoring or serving as a Tech Lead on a project.
- Sits on the Architectural Review Board, provides feedback on projects outside of their core area.
- Understands the tradeoffs between technical, analytical and product needs and leads to solutions that take all of these needs into account.
- Identifies and proposes strategies around technical problems affecting their team, communicates standards and gets buy-in on solutions.
- Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.
What you’ll bring to the table:
- 6+ years of software development experience
- Strong problem-solving, programming, communication, and object-oriented design skills
- Proven ownership of features and systems — from small, well-scoped modules to large features and service-level system design
- Hands-on coding mindset with mentoring experience

- Familiarity with AI-powered coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code)
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP.
- Ability to own and drive cross-service system design
- Familiarity with event-driven (EDA) and service-oriented (SOA) architecture
- Exposure to Vue.js
