Role Overview

Skylo is looking for a Staff Wireless Systems Lead. This person will be part of the CTO team at Skylo and will play a critical role in our mission to deliver highly reliable and ubiquitous network connectivity around the world.  We are looking for highly talented engineers who are interested in building a disruptive product in the market. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of wireless systems engineers, providing technical direction, mentorship, and performance guidance.
  • Define and execute the wireless systems roadmap, aligning with Skylo's strategic goals and evolving 3GPP NTN standards.
  • Guide the team in creating detailed technical documentation and updates for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Direct the analysis and benchmarking of network performance under various conditions.Identify and implement optimizations to enhance efficiency, reliability, and reduce latency.
  • Collaborate with the team to define and propose 3GPP contributions that support Skylo's services and roadmap.
  • Partner with internal engineering teams to review designs, define test plans, and ensure high-quality deliverables.
  • Collaborate with product management and business teams to align technical efforts with market needs.
  • Develop features for chipset and device certification roadmap based on conducted research to protect Skylo network and enable value added services..
  • Collaborate and effectively communicate with partners, vendors and Skylo stakeholders. 
  • Work closely with other cross-functional teams, including base station/core,   network , platform engineering and quality analysis teams.
  • Innovate and add to the Skylo IP portfolio.
  • Mentor and develop team members, fostering technical excellence and professional growth. Promote knowledge sharing and a collaborative engineering culture..

Qualifications & Experience

  • 15+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in building and scaling cloud-native software systems in a production environment.
  • Experience in real-time network management, OSS/BSS platforms, or IoT cloud services.
  • Strong programming expertise in C++, Python, Go, or equivalent, with hands-on experience in cloud-based infrastructure as code (Terraform, Helm).
  • Deep understanding of NB-IoT, LTE, 5G, or satellite communications protocols.
  • Strong grasp of security best practices, including authentication, encryption, and access control in distributed systems.
  • Experience in leading multicultural teams that develop high-performance, highly available, and scalable applications.
  • Excellent communication skills with a track record of collaborating across engineering, product, and operations teams.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • PhD/masters degree in Telecommunication, Electrical Engineering  or a related field.
  • 10+  years total experience
  • 5+ years experience as a Wireless researcher or Systems Engineer with a focus on Wireless RAN standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of wireless communication 3GPP standards such as NB-IOT, 5G and LTE.
  • Experience with protocol and algorithm development and standardization processes along with 3GPP contributions is a plus.
  • Understanding of satellite network technologies is highly desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Proven ability to conduct detailed research and propose effective solutions.
  • Programming capabilities with experience in Python or Matlab. 
  • Proven track record of thriving in a fast-paced, rapidly growing and evolving startup environment is preferred.
  • Highly collaborative, with superior communication and leadership skills, comfortable working with teams from diverse backgrounds.
