Principal Engineer (AME Cell Assembly)
Position Overview:
Solid Power is seeking an experienced Principal Engineer to play a pivotal role in the advanced manufacturing engineering team working to revolutionize the battery industry through the development of next‐generation, all solid‐state rechargeable batteries. Solid Power is a dynamic, fast‐paced, collaborative, and innovative team environment. A successful candidate will lead from cell design to optimization of battery cell manufacturing processes, ensuring the highest standard of quality, efficiency and reliability. In addition to possessing strong mechanical engineering design skills, the ideal candidate will demonstrate expertise in new manufacturing processes & line development to commercialize all solid-state batteries.
Job Duties:
- Work closely with the design and manufacturing teams executing our cell manufacturing process to meet internal and external customer deliverables
- Provide timely, data-focused feedback to critical business partners for scale-up to the pilot line production
- Work with leadership to create new process development strategies, plan group projects and execute business objectives
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, including establishing timelines, allocating resources and overseeing project milestones. Provide regular updates to internal and external stakeholders on project progress
- Contribute to a culture of innovation by identifying, developing and documenting intellectual property
- Mentor and contribute to the professional development of junior team members by fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment that promotes innovation, creativity, and scientific excellence
Qualifications/ Requirements:
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field
- Minimum of 15 years of related industry experience with lithium-ion cell manufacturing, initial set up, process development and testing
- In-depth understanding of battery cell design principles and manufacturing processes, with a focus on alignment between cell design and manufacturing requirements
- Experience with designing and developing new battery production equipment and validation, including tooling and gages in assemblies
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and Six Sigma methodologies
- Strong communicator with a track record of presenting to audiences from the operator to the executive leadership level
- Familiarity with conducting Advance Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Experience in Giga line production environment preferred
- Approaches key decisions using a data driven approach
- Team builder that thrives in a fast-paced start-up environment
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite required, proficiency in SAP preferred
- Ability to work on-site at our Louisville, Colorado office
Physical Requirements (with or without accommodation):
- Most working hours will be spent on the production floor.
- Ability to lift 50lbs daily.
- Required to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary including, but not limited to eye protection, hair net, gloves, face mask, coveralls, full-face respirator or PAPR.
Salary Range: $140,000 - $180,000/annually
